News Digest: Pathfinder 2nd Ed Release Line Details, D&D Ranger NOT Changing, BattleTech Clan Invasi

The complaint I most often hear/read are the features you gain that pertain to specific terrains. Regardless of level, survival/nature will be of no help if not in favored terrain. That is why they are terrible and the biggest complaint

News Digest: Pathfinder 2nd Ed Release Line Details, D&D Ranger NOT Changing, BattleTech Clan Invasi

Its not about the damage, but the features of the class. They are to narrowly focused. Not enjoyable. The game is not only about damage output.

D&D 5E (2014) Using Spell Point Variant Rule?

The reasons we keep Sorcery Points and Spell Points systems separate are We already kept them separate, but when the question was posed to Crawford, he wrote the intended use was for them to be separate. Sorcery Points can no longer be used for creating spell slots when using Spell Points...

D&D 5E (2014) Using Spell Point Variant Rule?

Use it for our Sorcerer as opposed to spell slots. Has been working very well. It is kept separate from the Sorcery Points. Has not out shined the other spell caster.

Mike Mearls Discusses Possible Alternate Class Features for the Ranger on Happy Fun Hour 11/20

I know Favored Enemy is part of the class's history, but it is frustrating that it is the only class that has bonuses against a certain creature type while the other classes have no such restrictions/limitations. Natural Explorer is also a feature with restrictions. It offers expertise in many...

Mike Mearls Discusses Possible Alternate Class Features for the Ranger on Happy Fun Hour 11/20

He made the point of considering alternative versions. But then to follow that up with calling those who want change phantoms was uncalled for. For a person and a organization who preach acceptance and understanding to use a term to imply those people are illusions are hurtful. It is very hard...

Mike Mearls Discusses Possible Alternate Class Features for the Ranger on Happy Fun Hour 11/20

Hopefully the feedback made Crawford reconsider his words when he tweeted that a few phantoms were complaining about the ranger. We are not a phantom (defined - Phantom is person/thing with an illusory status. Or something without material substance.) WoTC are in complete denial. I wish...

Official D&D Errata Updated (Nov 2018)

With the changes made to spell slots, does this negate the Multiclass Spellcaster chart on pp164-5 in the PHB? Do you have to track spell slots for each class seaparately? If this is true, I think they just made it worse overall for multiclassing and, more importantly, for ease of play.

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Ranger's and traps

What about this Trapper Tools This set of tools is used to help set up traps or to disarm traps set by your enemies. Being a hunter requires you to be proficient in traps that not only deal with simple beasts but also evolved creatures such as other humanoids. This set of tools includes a small...

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Ranger's and traps

As you pointed out, there could be situations that could arise that would make it difficult to determine what path to choose. And there are traps used by woodsmen/women that cause damage. I am certain there are many people who are capable of determining what tool/skill/whatever can be used for...

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Ranger's and traps

Some people say I am backwards :) But when the player describes what she/he wants to do, a tool maybe required. I would think that regardless of what the player wants to do, if the proper equipment is lacking, it can't be done or done with penalty. Satyrn suggested Trappers' Tools. Maybe have...

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Ranger's and traps

Not bad. I would consider say it disarms any trap that doesn't have a key mechanism. Otherwise it may cause the same argument of what trap falls in what category. Other option was just give them thieves' tools and be done. Though I have to admit I like the discussion this topic brought to the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Ranger's and traps

With respect to the pit trap, the top of the pit trap closes and traps the Ranger inside (in this scenario). Now she/he needs to find a way out. I understand these trap scenarios may not come up very often and what tool, if any, is needed depends on the trap. I am trying to, with the help of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Ranger's and traps

I guess Rangers would also set traps for Favored Enemies.Examples could be a covered pit with spikes, a trip wire that either causes a cage to fall or cause a crossbow/log with spikes to harm the victim, a pressure dependent trap that causes victim's legs to be caught in a noose and hung upside down

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Ranger's and traps

I missed that. Thank you. Though I still wish they left it open vs placing the requirement in the description of the trap. Additionally, one could argue that regardless, you may not need to be proficient but still require the "tools" to disarm the trap

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Ranger's and traps

But there are traps that are universally for both, which can lead to an argument to what requires thieves's tools.

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Ranger's and traps

That's what I thought until Xanathar's guide. I know it can be homebrewed.

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Ranger's and traps

I understand. I was trying to think of a way without encroaching completely on that skill set.

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Ranger's and traps

In Xanathar's Guide it states that Thieves' Tools is required to disable Bear Traps and Trip Wires. Does that require Rangers to gain the Thieves' Tools to set or disarm these traps; even if the traps are not their own. I have not found much written on this subject. I know some allow the...
