    D&D 5E (2014) Question about Ranger's ability vs Hordes

Sorry, misunderstood. I can see multiattack with rangers though. Rangers either travel in groups or scouting alone. They are woodsman who travel through the land and they have to deal with a band of orcs for example. Such a confrontation may require dealing with multiple targets who wish to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Question about Ranger's ability vs Hordes

Does for me. Ranger adept in being in natural terrain and using camouflage to lay and wait (Hide in Plain Sight). Then when target in range or within reach, attack. Just like an assassin (who doesn't have camouflage)

    D&D 5E (2014) Question about Ranger's ability vs Hordes

It seems that any ability given to a Ranger is unacceptable as it "belongs" to another class. It encroaches upon that class's features. I am personally tired of hearing of these complaints. Example when the UA rangers was given "advantage on attacks against creatures who haven't taken a turn in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Question about Ranger's ability vs Hordes

Actually not a fan. Tried reading it but couldn't. I would recommend Dragon Reborn (Robert Jordan) and Magician Apprentice (Raymond E Fiest) series.

    D&D 5E (2014) Question about Ranger's ability vs Hordes

I must have remembered incorrectly. Possibly I read it elsewhere (whether another game or recreational reading) and transposed it to the D&D Ranger. Thank you for clearing it up.

    D&D 5E (2014) Question about Ranger's ability vs Hordes

I was always under assumption that Rangers excelled against fighting large number of creatures. Hunter's Mark is vs only one creature. There are a couple of spells that are effective vs hordes that only work with thrown weapons or arrows/bolts. But the others focus on one creature. The Hunter...

D&D 5E (2014) The Future of the Ranger

I agree. We use our own versions as well, but would like an official version. Once that focuses on favored enemy and one more as a scout. Also it has no spells.

That is only at level 3 and 4 when you select that conclave. From level 5 onward you still have an an action (attack) plus another action to control the beast. If anything, for those 2 levels, just forgo the beast or have it in the wings.

D&D 5E (2014) The Future of the Ranger

Not necessarily. Usually if combating a single boss, it has multiple attacks which can also target you, especially if you are a melee focused player. And if in combat with superior numbers, everyone will get hit. And I would hope as a beast master, you would not send your beast to slaughter to...

D&D 5E (2014) The Future of the Ranger

Well, to be honest, most of the time the rogue never gets to use thieves cant either. You can always change thieves cant to scout signals

D&D 5E (2014) The Future of the Ranger

Actually, in PHB, the ranger gives up an action, or one attack if extra attack, to use the beast. In new version, ranger only gets one attack while beast gets other attack. So if beast dies, you still have only one attack. Its actually worse.

However that "popularity" could be due to multiclass or just character creation. It doesn't evaluate the play usage.

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Guide to Everything: Rogue Scout

For me it's not for optimization. It is playing a ranger that I envision (and no magic but that's just me). My point is having expertise in nature and survival is a ranger's forte, not a rogues. As I said, WoTC wouldn't give a ranger a flat expertise in survival, only for 3 terrains spread over...

D&D 5E (2014) The Future of the Ranger

Yes the "new ranger" is in the guide. It's called.........the Rogue Scout. If the rogue scout resembles the UA version, you can have expertise in 6 skills in all terrains by level 6 versus 3 terrains by level 10 (in comparison to PHB version).

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Guide to Everything: Rogue Scout

I still do not understand why they gave the expertise of Survival and nature to the rogue class as well as Ambush Master. Those abilities should have been core Ranger features. Originally, the Ranger only had expertise in Wisdom and Intelligence skills in the selected terrains because giving...

D&D 5E (2014) Point Buy vs Rolling for Stats

We started a new campaign a few weeks ago and what we have done is take the standard array of 15,14,13,12,10,8 and added a +2 to each score. When making a character though, no race bonuses were applied. Your stats could still increase through feats or magical items. When we used the standard...

D&D 5E (2014) This is a directory of posters who think the sorcerer needs fixing

Not in game play, but in current literature, you can go to the Dragon Reborn novels by Robert Jordan where it seemed everyone who was able to use magic was a sorcerer. Some excelled in healing, illusion, damage, etc. They can use both instantaneous and concentration spells They used raw energy...
