D&D 5E (2014) So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

I'm not offering any opinion about what should and sound not be allowed. I'm just saying that, in theory, 2014 characters will remain legal even after the new PHB comes out, so in theory the OP is good to go. I'm sure some DMs won't allow that, just as some don't allow you to play aarakocra or...

    D&D 5E (2024) So IS it a new edition?

When I was a teenager, New Edition did a free promotional set at my high school. I rolled my eyes at it, but in retrospect, that was obviously a mistake. A staggering amount of talent came out of that group: Bobby Brown! Johnny Gill! Bell Biv DeVoe! I wish I could tell my 15-year-old self to pay...

D&D 5E (2014) So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

WotC says that 2014 characters are still legal in 5.5e, although as you say, individual DMs may differ. Hence "supposed to".

D&D 5E (2014) So, I kind of want to stay with 2014 rules. What are my longterm options?

As a player, all you need is to find a DM who allows original 2014 classes - which all of them are supposed to. As a DM, that will be tougher. I don't expect that 2014 games will be common in the same way that Pathfinder 1e games remained frequent even after PF2e came out. I just don't think...

    Peregrine's Nest: Before Their Time

It's a setting, not a game, but I'm sad we won't get more Primeval Thule. I generally bounce off of D&D "worlds" but that one was awesome.

Sell Me on Dungeon Crawl Classics For Long term Play, and NO Funnels

Yes! Love the 13th Age books. For those who don't know, here's a taste of the awesomeness: when a 13a owlbear scores a critical hit, it rips your arm off and then attempts to escape combat so it can feed your arm to its cubs. Good stuff! Another killer tidbit: a suggested plot hook for the lich...

D&D General D&D Player's Handbook 2024: The Official Advance Review

My comment was emphatically not meant to be at your expense. I like your review! Now: is it 5.5 or 5.24? Bring your pistol and meet me in Weehawken at dawn.

D&D General D&D Player's Handbook 2024: The Official Advance Review

"Make no mistake, this is a new edition." No it isn't. Yes it is. It clearly is not. It obviously is. What's wrong with you? It isn't! (continues for 40 more pages)

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player's Handbook Video Redactions & Takedowns

You know, I've given WotC the benefit of the doubt. As bad as the OGL debacle was, I defended them for backing more than 100% of the way off, making the game more open than it was previously. I'm not a torch and ptchfork guy. But I've had it with WotC. They're treating my local FLGS like crap...

    D&D 5E (2024) Clerics and 2014 Domains (+)

I don't think anyone has ever said, "That character is brokenly powerful! He has proficiency in smith's tools!" So that's an easy call: let Forge clerics have that. No one will complain. The bonuses for Arcana and Nature are a bit stronger, but not overwhelmingly so. I would probably let those...

Dragonlance More Dragonlance coming in 2026

"Vile Wot'C!" exclaimed Tasslehoff. "Your evil scheme will not stand. This i swear upon the sacred crystal, The Original God Lens!" "Foolish mortal!" cried the evil Wot'C. "Behold my deeds and tremble, for I have broken the supposedly unbreakable OGL!"

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

That's my complaint, really. I liked contested checks! Simple, elegant, rewarded training in the relevant skills for both PCs and monsters. Stealth vs perception, athletics vs acrobatics. Easy to explain, easy to understand, resolved instantly. Great! To be fair, maybe this new saving throw...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Actually, I haven't. I have not seen one strength-based rogue in all the time 5e has been out. I guess my friends aren't munchkin-y enough. Is it bad that I'm kind of happy to know that strength rogue was a thing, even in that weirdo broken form?

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Wondering if I'm the only one shocked that they changed the rules for grappling. The new rule seems okay, so I'm not complaining about it per se. But it's strange that they changed something that didn't need fixing, at all. I frequently cited the grappling rule as evidence of how streamlined...
