    How did you get started?

I was very quiet, distant from my peers, and shunned by most kids from pre-kindergarden to grade 12. Since I didn't discover video games until I was ten, and RPGs until several years after that I had plenty of time for books. I had learned to read (by which I mean picking up a book and actually...

    We don't "slaughter"!

Thank you for the apologies to exceptions. :) I'm not sure what the "right" choice would be. Most likely if I as a player was there and at least somewhat understood the situation I'd settleon a truce with the monster, but suggest it leave the area to somewhere where the general public would be...

"Your definition of 'playing it cool' substantially differs from mine." Haha, I love it.

    Why not monks?

Well yeah, it's 7. I'm always iffy about any ability scores lower than 8 I guess. (Also, the AP they're in relies on charisma based skill checks to get a fairly substantial amount of bonus XP) >_> Still, it seems to be suiting him well, and the paladin has high Cha anyways so it's not like they...

    Why not monks?

15 point buy with ours. I'd expected him to suffer for it, but that's not the case. He's put his focus into Wisdom and Dex, followed by Str, then Int, then Con, and a sadly low Cha.

    Can't live without them

I was wondering which classes are the most common among people's groups, across all the (D&D or D&D-ish) games you play. I got the idea when thinking about this in terms of the groups I've been part of. I expected it to be one of the healing classes. We play Pathfinder, and oracles are popular...

    Why not monks?

I think our monk's plan it to stick with monk up to 6th level, then take 2 fighter levels, then 2 duelist levels. Assuming he hits 20th with this same character that he started with, I believe the plan was Monk/Fighter//Duelist 16/2/2. Not pure monk all the way, but no arcane or divine classes...

    Why not monks?

Everyone I know says monks are weak. I don't know about that. I've been recording my players' progress in our campaign lately, and after the first two sessions the party monk has been responsible for the three attacks that have caused the most damage of any PC or enemy so far. He's landed more...

As a DM, what is your default answer to player requests?

Depends what they ask. If it's clearly reasonable, "yes". If it's not, "no". If I can sort of see what they're getting at, but I'm not entirely convinced, my general response is "pitch it to me". If they player can intelligently convince me that what they want should reasonably get a yes, then...

What do your PCs do with prisoners?

Coup de grace. Most likely. On occasion they capture and then turn the prisoner over to the authorities, but usually only with an incentive. Like a bounty that requires the target be brought back alive.

    Your approach to session planning?

I don't do as much physical prep as I used to. These days, if there's a dungeon coming I'll have it ready, with every monster, obstacle, and puzzle in it ready too. Then I generally go do other things, and as I do I tend to think of how I might handle the various upcoming challenges as if I were...

    Race drawing the villain's attention

Will do. If we get far enough and the game goes well enough I'll probably make a Story Hour of it, but for now we're just about to begin. Game 1 is tomorrow night, and the team is as follows: M Halfling Paladin (The high-Cha face of the group. Focus seems to be on his tower shield) F Dwarf...

    Race drawing the villain's attention

I gave him a little warning. Decided that though some people said they would have liked the surprise of finding that out during the campaign, I didn't want to risk it. This is a player I'm not too familiar with yet, and I'd rather play it safe. Well, he chose to play a tengu anyways, so I guess...

    Dice Towers

Now I'm tempted to build a novelty tower made (mostly) of glued together d6s. Maybe a ramp of d4s at the base of the tower's inside... But then I wouldn't be able to roll them any more. :(

    Race drawing the villain's attention

Yamabushi Tengus in particular are described as the kind of enemy who will always attack a duck even in the presence of a far more dangerous and immediate threat, so I think this is exactly the type of villain with a mentality that would pick him over other targets. I think I am going to give...

    That Tower Shield ACP

Heya, question relating to a discussion our group is currently having, and that other groups have probably had before us. Does a Tower Shield's Armor Check Penalty (a massive -10) apply only while it's wielded, or at all times while its being carried? The group is split on which is the case...

    Race drawing the villain's attention

First of all: The following post contains some spoilers to the Pathfinder AP Jade Regent. (There, I warned you) I've just gotten Brinewall Legacy and thus plan to start taking a group into the first part of Jade Regent soon, and something's happened. A player wants to be a tengu. They are, at...

Gestalt Bard Campaign: Making Perform Checks More Than A d20 Roll

I imagine there would have to be a lot of urban adventures to make the band aspect more obvious. Not all urban, but a majority probably. As for the concert, how about people who get past the guards and onto the stage, having to deal with crazy stalker fans, copycat bands, and other such things...
