Cubicle 7 Announces New Horus Heresy RPG for Warhammer

I think IM has some promise. We'll have to see how the focus groups on the different aspects of play besides inquisitorial acolytes play out though.

John Kovalic Looks Back On Over Two Decades Of Munchkin

My biggest problem with Munchkin is the problem that near the end everyone just gangs up on the guy closest to winning. Munchkin Quest fixes this problem by stipulating that to attack anybody you have to be in the same room as that person. Makes for a much less aggravating experience.

Studio Agate Takes Over 7th Sea From Chaosium

The Castille stuff from 1e has long been known to be messed up on a bunch of minor to major issues. 2e fixed most of these.

Studio Agate Takes Over 7th Sea From Chaosium

They just needed to fix the broken stuff. You could exploit a bunch of stuff like Pommel Strike and if you built your character optimally you could do like 10K10+100 damage, that sort of stuff. Plus, there were a bunch of swordsman schools that were terrible and never worth taking, that sort of...

Studio Agate Takes Over 7th Sea From Chaosium

Honestly there isn't anything so unique to the setting that can't be covered by any fantasy roleplaying game. Especially since most campaigns aren't pirate/ship based as most of the art would have you believe. Personally? While any fantasy rule system would work fine, if you wanna go for...

Studio Agate Takes Over 7th Sea From Chaosium

Same, we tried it twice. Different groups and everyone hated it. Just sort of guessing what skills you're going to use, rolling dice based on that and then, probably, spending those dice generated on that premise on something completely different is not really satisfying. Everyone hated the lore...

Studio Agate Takes Over 7th Sea From Chaosium

Judging by the questions on the survey Chaosium sent out yesterday for Studio Agate's revision, I wouldn't hold my breath if you were hoping for a return to first edition setting or mechanics. It looks like either a continuation of what is now current or a further iteration thereof. Which...

Jason Carl on White Wolf's Return, Mage: The Ascension Plans

Yeah, I thought about mentioning Geist in my earlier post. But you're right, to me personally, it felt like White Wolf's attempt to just make Wraith again with an explicitly more gameable premise.

Jason Carl on White Wolf's Return, Mage: The Ascension Plans

Yeah, that's what I got out of the original book. Still though, like if the game is for every character to follow their individual passions lest they embrace oblivion, what unifies the party? My biggest pet peeve with WoD is the party constantly splitting up and scheming in secret, potentially...

Jason Carl on White Wolf's Return, Mage: The Ascension Plans

Wraith's biggest problem, and I've read the book multiple times, is it does an absolutely terrible job of explaining what your players are supposed to do.

    Magazines Dragon Reflections #93

I also am part of a middle school D&D club and let me tell you it's not just you. The vast majority can't be bothered to learn the rules. There are some exceptions, as always, but man it was alot different when I was in middle school. Learning the rules to "real game" like D&D or whatever at...

I never thought I'd say this, but I prefer an Animorph cover to this oil painting.

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

It would seem plausible, but if the legal agreement was that comprehensive in its terms and conditions, it wouldn't also have a boilerplate conduct clause that can justify a termination of the agreement? My understanding is that is very common and has been for some time.

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

Absolutely no way. That property is radioactive forever. What Barker did is way worse than the weird bigoted uncle ranting on Facebook that Bledsaw likes to engage in. Hell, at this point I'm not sure you can convince me that Barker didn't write the Turner Diaries under a pseudonym. Edited to...

Jason Carl on White Wolf's Return, Mage: The Ascension Plans

Perfectly valid. V5 isn't really to my taste personally, I think we're kidding ourselves if we think the way most people actually end up playing Vampire isn't superhero politics and I find the attempts to systematize the early Vampire focus on the struggle to retain humanity in the face of your...

Jason Carl on White Wolf's Return, Mage: The Ascension Plans

In the case of Vampire, I think their biggest problem in regards to a new edition, is that V20 exists. Alot of the blowback around V5 or the Chronicles of Darkness version (or whatever the name for that thing is now) is that people want the milieu and lore they recognize. There are definitely...

TSR Why would anyone want to play 1e?

Absolutely wild, I had totally missed this. I feel like a thief broke up his first marriage or something, like, what did the thief ever do to him?

New Tunnels & Trolls first look at UK Games Expo.

This is a relief, right? I remember seeing a thread on here awhile back about how somebody talked to somebody from Rebellion at a different, earlier convention and they were very concerned from that interaction that the new T&T would be nothing like the old game. Sort of like how that new...

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

I think the bar for the vast majority of RPG publishers are quite low when it comes to measuring success. Like, you could be a dude with some free desktop publishing software putting out print zines you get printed at an Office Max and pull a regular, albeit modest profit. If I had to pick one...
