Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

Yeah, they are trying to keep the numbers for this around what they need to pay themselves and refund the backers of the 2014 Kickstarter. If they end up with a bunch of extra money I think they have to pay the JG or something like that. That was my interpretation of the scatterbrained GG...

TSR Why would anyone want to play 1e?

The real reasons C&C's rules are the way they are is because they predate OSRIC. Essentially, they didn't think they could clone AD&D legally. All that said, I do like C&C. One of the things I dislike about 5E is the party of all furry Sonic OCs that every party is now (doubly so now with the...

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

We are just a few minutes into the campaign and people are starting to pile into the comments section on Backerkit complaining about the lack of included PDFs.

    Whoops, you're right, I can't type.

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

If I'm reading this right, there isn't even a bundle for print and PDF in combination. So if you wanted one box set (DCC or 5E) and a PDF it would be $330. Is this a reprint of Invisible Sun or something? EDIT: I don't math/type good. I am smart and cool.

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

It looks like it just launched. If you were inclined to back it, just be aware that the $200 box set does NOT include the PDF. With value like that they might need that extra shot of FOMO they ended up having here, good lord.

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

It works out for GG, in the end I think. Most gamers who would back this probably aren't even aware of all this anyway, and a fair amount who are aware may still back it anyway now that this one crowdfunded print run will be the only way to get it. I know I would want a premium DCC conversion...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

I decided to check in on this thread since it was on page 693 and I was like "Let's see where this is at" and I see we are arguing about Burning Wheel rules.

D&D General grodog's Top 10 Favorite Greyhawk Adventures

That's fair. Hommlet is far from the worst offender, you're definitely right there. It's just a preference thing. I'll take a 10 room dungeon where each room is wholly noteworthy, unique and memorable over something like the Moathouse as a general matter.

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

As somebody who has played and enjoyed OD&D and older editions of WFRP, I don't mind less weapon variance but I do understand the criticism. For example, in OD&D since every weapon does D6 damage generally speaking, the only weapons you will see wielded are daggers because you can attack twice...

D&D General grodog's Top 10 Favorite Greyhawk Adventures

I really dig old school play in certain aspects but dungeon design is not one of the things that ever clicked for me. Hommlet is a great example, assuming the PCs don't miss going to the Moathouse entirely they will immediately encounter a bunch of rooms with nothing noteworthy in them, for...

What does it take for an RPG to die?

No game can ever truly die given that words on a page (especially ones that have been digitized) can never truly die. Hell, at a local convention the single most popular living campaign is for DragonQuest and that game is so abandoned the WotC abandoned the trademark.

ZWEIHÄNDER Reforged: Talking With Daniel D. Fox (World of Game Design)

Warms my heart. I needed this today. Sometimes it's nice to know, that in today's world people can still get together on things, you know?

Cubicle 7 Announces New Horus Heresy RPG for Warhammer

In the pre-4e days Daniel Fox (of Zweihander and general internet annoyance fame) was talking about being in talks with GW about acquiring the WFRP license and a condition of that deal was that they also produce an Age of Sigmar game. So I imagine a fair amount of that output (especially the...

Cubicle 7 Announces New Horus Heresy RPG for Warhammer

Putting aside the fact that I think the Horus Heresy peaked as a two page write-up in the original Rogue Trader, this is now a cow that requires constant milking. Anyway, any word on what rule system this uses? More Imperium Maledictum or more Wrath & Glory?

RPG Archive: Lovecraft Country for CoC and D&D

My understanding is that that it's not just Arkham (which just released and looks great) but all of those older Lovecraft Country books are going to get updated at some point by Chaosium. But yeah, the mechanics are probably the least important part of the books and the conversion is very...

    Amazon takes over Bond franchise

On the upside, we'll probably get a new movie before 2029 now. Some of these gaps are quite large.

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone Else Find It Interesting How Different The Approaches to Setting Books Is Between 5e & 5.5e?

Yeah, fair. It's not "bad" in the way that say, Ravenloft is. It's different and they made some changes that I don't particularly like, but given it's a smaller slipcase release vs 2E's dozen books or whatever that's understandable to an extent. Here is a list of all the notable differences...

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone Else Find It Interesting How Different The Approaches to Setting Books Is Between 5e & 5.5e?

This works for me. The longer this lore focus goes on the more likely it is old settings get revisited. Now, the actual quality of the revisits will likely vary considerably and I have no faith they will get it right, personally (see, Ravenloft, Planescape et al). I also have concave interest in...
