D&D General How Dungeons & Dragons Started, WotC video.

Yeah, same. I got my copy a few years ago for like twenty bucks. Surprised it's still so cheap, given its place in history.

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

Yes, 100%. But also it just irks me somehow, deep down in what remains of my soul, when I see Patreon paywalled posts that would have been just like, a normal blog post ten years ago. I can't help it. It's like when there is a bag of slop in front of me from Taco Bell. I'mma eat it, it...

I consider those more analogous to expansion packs PC games used to have. But yeah, the line can get blurry.

Hottest take: I miss the TTRPG internet from before Patreon and Kickstarter. Where the only monetization was you made a tangible product, and if it looked cool, I gave you money for that tangible product. Not some arrangement where I give you money for some nebulous future content that I may or...

The Rise And Fall Of Evil Genius Games

Excellent article. Alot of this rings true to my experiences working with Silicon Valley Tech Bro Disease. I'm sorry for all the bad expriences and tangible harm the former and current employees suffered. That being said, I am not at all sorry to see a VC backed Web 3 MBA buzz word...

    D&D 5E (2014) Humblewood: A New Third-Party Setting on D&D Beyond

That's another good point. On a more general matter, who looks at WotC's behavior for checks notes all of 2023 and is like, "Yeah, I'ma fix to hitch my business to these fellas" ?

    D&D 5E (2014) Humblewood: A New Third-Party Setting on D&D Beyond

I really am curious what the terms are for third party publishers to get on DDB. Unless I'm wrong, none have ever said? I imagine it's a consequential amount of the sales.

    General DCC RPG thread

Speaking of DCC RPG crowdfunding this looks interesting. I've definitely run multiple games where people want to play goblins and I just re-skin the thief and give them vomit powers. Looks like somebody had the same idea.

    General DCC RPG thread

I think you'll get the PDF once the campaign ends. I think that's how they did it before if I remember right. And yeah, they don't change the rules really at all. They change the covers, maybe change some spellings and what-not. About the most reliable thing they change around between...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Those are all licensed directly through Goodman, they got that DCC logo on them.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Big DCC guys myself too, and yeah, very dissapointing. Building a game off of the OGL and then marking everything under the sun as product identity is like rescuing a dog from the pound just to turn around and breed it in a puppy mill. Kinda misses the whole point of the exercise.

Yeah, my main complaint with the rules too.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

So, I finally heard back from Monte Cook Games. There you go. They think the OGL was meant for that behavior and it's totally normal. Even though I can only think of like two or three publishers that use the OGL this way. Nothing to see here, move along.

Here They Are! Your 10 Most Anticipated TTRPGs For 2024!

Having Cthulhu adventures in imperial Rome seems like a such niche thing to have two games for. Have we reached peak Cthulhu saturation? Probably not until we see the 2D20 version of the Cthulhu Jane Austin simulator.

    General DCC RPG thread

Speaking as a dude who's been playing DCC RPG since launch I find it great that they are reprinting these titles with added stuff. But, speaking as somebody who's been playing since launch and backed the original campaigns for Purple Planet and the original Grimtooth collection it is a little...

D&D 5E (2014) MCDM to revisit the Illrigger.

I doubt that would happen. I mean, if that were true, there would be hundreds of OSR subforums, but there aren't. If the new MCDM is not broadly compatible with 5e (which it may not be) then it would be its own thing anyway.
