    D&D 5E (2014) What’s So Great About Medieval Europe?

It didn’t make me think of D&D. It made me thing of other things I could do in D&D or with and RPG and different stories I could tell.

WotC Ray Winninger Is Head of D&D RPG Team; Mike Mearls No Longer Works on RPG

And Zak S has proven himself as someone reliable who we can believe based on his word? She made an anonymous email for the sole purpose of contacting Mearls and then shared it with multiple people who were also associated with Zak S? I find that doubtful... Do you have any evidence of that...

D&D General The Generic Deities of D&D

I’m sure someone mentioned it here, but Critical Role also uses the Dawn War pantheon with the addition of Sarenrae from Pathfinder—renamed Rae in the official book. These are included in the 3rd party book from a Green Ronin and given titles rather than names, which makes them extra generic. A...

    D&D 5E (2014) Too Much Money

The default treasure is a little high. It’s very much the same as older editions when you were expected to be buying magic (3e) or building keeps (1e &2e). In my next campaign I’ll be limiting money, and sticking to the low level treasure tables for much of the campaign. It it’s also an update...

WotC Ray Winninger Is Head of D&D RPG Team; Mike Mearls No Longer Works on RPG

Game designer Olivia Hill was an outspoken critic of Zak and blamed him for harassment, and threats made against her and her children by Zak’s supporters. In 2014, when Mearls asked the community for evidence of Zak’s harassment she shared her experiences with an anonymous burner email created...

D&D General Let's Share Our Alternate Lore

My world is a bunch of mashed together post-apocalyptic traits. Orcs are humans mutated by exposure to radioactive magical crystals. They're basically super mutants from Fallout.

D&D 5E (2014) What does Midgard do that Forgotten Realms and Wildemount don't?

The Southlands. It’s a fantasy Africa/Arabia. Lots of gnolls, insect people, and lion folk. I haven’t read that product personally; it’s a separate sub-setting currently only available for Pathfinder at the moment although a small player’s guide with races was one of the first 5e races Kobold...

    D&D 5E (2014) Long-term campaign setting plans (speculation)

Actually... Ghosts of Saltmarsh was done by Wolfgang Baur and some Kobold Press freelancers Descent into Avernus featured a staggering number of freelancers helping. And, as you said, Eberron was largely done by Keith Baker copying his work in Wayfarer’s Guide.

Apologies. I read the first part of your post but the second paragraph didn’t register. I didn’t mean to poke.

WotC Ray Winninger Is Head of D&D RPG Team; Mike Mearls No Longer Works on RPG

I have mixed feelings about Mearls. Clearly he effed up with the Zak S situation. He took Zak’s side and bad mouthed the people sharing their stories of problematic interactions with Zak. And shared their emails with Zak, allowing him to harass them in retaliation for speaking out against him...

There are consequences beyond legal ones. If you misbehave at work that’s a human resources issues. And arguing “innocent until proven guilty” with HR seldom ends well...

    D&D 5E (2014) Long-term campaign setting plans (speculation)

And yet the actual number of books released in house hasn’t increased. And has actually decreased as only two books in 2019—and likely 2020—were done by that “larger” WotC team. They’re doing more stuff (licensed starter sets) but not as much for us traditional and established fans. -Edit-...

    D&D 5E (2014) Long-term campaign setting plans (speculation)

The D&D RPG team is pretty small still, so just getting three new hardcovers out each year is tricky. Which is why they often rely on reprints in the spring. But people like quarterly books and slightly more frequent releases... The MtG books help with that, as the bulk of those books can be...

D&D 5E (2014) What does Midgard do that Forgotten Realms and Wildemount don't?

I go into a longer review of that book here: Review: Midgard Worldbook Midgard is more Norse (obviously) and eastern European rather than western. Baba Yaga is a big part. And it's just a darker setting: there's an entire kingdom ruled by vampires, a giant wasteland where Great Old Ones were...

    D&D 5E (2014) What’s So Great About Medieval Europe?

More than said my piece on the subject of cultural appropriate and this thread, so I think I'll walk away now before I get irritated and bow out by saying "Watch Baahubali." It's two films. Both were on Netflix. It's like 300 but over two generations and with song-and-dance numbers. You'll...

Critical Role [+] What does Wildemount do that Forgotten Realms doesn't?

Rewatching the campaign there's some neat foreshadowing. With the PCs learning about the Krynn Dynasty from Dwendalian sources and it really does sound evil and nasty. They do feel set-up to be the "bad guy". And then the party gets there and finds its mostly propaganda. Which was all...

Critical Role [+] What does Wildemount do that Forgotten Realms doesn't?

They're included in the setting rather than secondary, but they're not essential. Mostly because there was a kenku in the show for three or four episodes, and it was just as fantastic as you'd expect when played by a professional voice actor and skilled mimic.
