    Spring's D&D Release Will Be Ship-Themed

I thought it was a missed opportunity in that "Black Panther" gave Afrocentric nerdery a big shot in the arm in 2018, and I was hoping for something more like the Forgotten Realms equivalent of Wakanda.

    Spring's D&D Release Will Be Ship-Themed

Indeed. Maybe the Zhents are more along the lines of the East India Company . . . all lawyers, muskets, and money.

    Spring's D&D Release Will Be Ship-Themed

Splitting the difference and making the PCs privateers . . . licensed pirates, more or less . . . is probably a good angle. Another good angle would be to clearly set up a major naval power as Lawful Evil (Zhents on a boat?), in order to accommodate Chaotic Good / Chaotic Neutral PCs.

    Spring's D&D Release Will Be Ship-Themed

I'd hope to see something Faerun-based. After all these years, there are still VAST uncharted areas on the map. As a big Jack Aubrey fan, I hope they give ample attention to the actual nuts and bolts of running a ship.

    Inspiration from Lego video games?

I'm tentatively thinking of this rogue archetype as "Troubleshooter" . . . a rogue who uses cleverness to overcome obstacles. Tied to high Intelligence, MacGyvering, general non-combat problem solving. Might just allow use of the Creation spell at higher levels, as their MacGyvering skills...

    Inspiration from Lego video games?

I mean that I'd be interested in a playing style that emphasized those sorts of things, and in some character options to provide expertise in those areas.

    Inspiration from Lego video games?

So me and the kids got a X Box One and Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 from Santa, and it occurs to me that a little bit of this gaming style would be a nice addition to D&D. Specifically . . . 1. Puzzles / problem solving. Beat the traps and overcome the obstacles through player ingenuity, not...

    Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Sidekicks

Let's be honest: the only reason for these rules to exist is so that every party can include an awakened giant goat. That's roleplaying magic, right there. Try it.

    Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Sidekicks

I've decided that five skills for the Expert might end up being too many damn skills. Maybe, they get a total of five skills, including any that the baseline creature receives?

Here's the Monster Manual list for Challenge 1 . . . What looks good? The wee baby dragons, for sure . . . Animated armor Brass dragon wyrmling Brown bear Bugbear Copper dragon wyrmling Death dog Dire wolf Dryad Duergar Faerie dragon (young) Fire snake Ghoul Giant eagle Giant hyena Giant...

Further inspiration: that big kid from "How to Train Your Dragon," whose main skill set is "Memorized the Monster Manual."

    Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Sidekicks

Are there stats out there for a sage? Because a sage sidekick would be a lot of fun. Maybe he's maxed out in Arcana and History, and follows around a low-Intelligence PC sorcerer or warlock who lacks those proficiencies . . . one knows everything about magic but can't do it, one can do it but...

Well, just brainstorming here . . . * Parkour guy rogue * Urban ranger * Fighter who throws rats at people * Druid who . . . turns into a rat?

Any crunchy stuff for PCs? New backgrounds or feats or builds or whatnot? If not, somebody's gotta get on that.

    Envoy Warforged: You Pass Butter

There's some good story potential here for something like a warforged blacksmith. Maybe he was originally just the guy who worked the bellows, or made nails or horseshoes. What if he aspires to make weapons or armor that rival the best work of the dwarf masters? What if he is an artist at...

    Envoy Warforged: You Pass Butter

I like that the chef warforged actually doesn't have to eat. Might be fun to play him as a henchman / support staff guy --- pack mule, torchbearer, squier, valet, and all-around helpful guy. But calligrapher warforged is interesting, too. Maybe a rogue inquisitive, with a superhuman...
