D&D General Why Do People Hate Gnomes?

I don't mind them personally, but I think the dislike is that they are too similar to halflings and dwarves. Fantasy Flight had a version of them for 3e that amped the magic aspect, which I thought worked well. It gave them a better identity.

D&D 5E (2014) Vote for Todays Best Adventures for Use in 5E

I loved Lost Mine. Mixing it with the second starter set made it even better. I found a supplement on the DMs Guild that took the rather weak Tome of Strahd from the core campaign and turned it into a time traveling device. The PCs - when they use it/solve a chapter - are transported back to...

D&D 5E (2014) Vote for Todays Best Adventures for Use in 5E

We finished. It was fantastic. Took two years on Roll20. I would run it again for a new group.

D&D General The True Story Behind Mazes & Monsters

"I think he went way overboard with all his quotation marks. After all these years, I don't know how he could remember all those conversations." The aunt said this. While reading the book, the same thought occurred to me. Dear wrote it four years after what happened. The book is FULL of...

D&D General The True Story Behind Mazes & Monsters

What I got from the book is that Dungeons and Dragons didn't have anything to do with the boy's mental breakdown. It was the culmination of several other tragic factors, and D&D, if anything, offered escapism and relief.

D&D General The True Story Behind Mazes & Monsters

Right, it is just a summary. I had to leave out tons of stuff, like how his men combed an early GenCon searching for the kid, and all the problems Dear had with campus police. I have no idea what was real or not in the book, it was just a good story. It reads like fiction for sure. Maybe...

He was AWESOME in 8mm. That is such an underrated film.

D&D General The True Story Behind Mazes & Monsters

I agree, it would have been better than the Hanks movie if they had made it a crime investigation story.

I don't usually post real life articles, but this was a 7000 word essay I thought some of you might enjoy. If you like the essay, please let me know. Any feedback is appreciated!. https://vocal.media/criminal/the-true-story-behind-mazes-and-monsters

D&D General Monsters you love to hate, and monsters you hate to love.

We had a fun roper encounter in Forge of Fury. It was positioned across from a fast moving stream, and its dang reach was so long it could drag PCs into the water. That fight scared the crap out of them.

Official News Level Up’s Archlich: The Mouthless One

I don't have the monster menagerie yet. I hear it is the best part of LU. I think I will wait until it is available on Roll20, as that is the only platform I use now.

D&D 5E (2014) New player, questions about new edition

Sounds like you have the basics. Lost Mine is FANTASTIC. I have said this in the past, but it ranks up there in the top 5 adventurers of all time, in any edition of D&D. If you take Essentials and cherry pick it to add flavor and new encounters to Lost Mine, you will have a super robust...

D&D 5E (2014) New player, questions about new edition

Nothing is really ever obsolete. I have run adventures from the 1980s and adapted them to 5e. It's easy to do. All that changes are the stat blocks. The stories are the same. Everything is reusable, again and again.

D&D 5E (2014) New player, questions about new edition

If you are DMing, I highly, highly recommend getting Lost Mine of Phandelver and the Essentials starter set expansion, and if you can find the 4th edition Neverwinter book, you will have enough Sword Coast material to take your players from 1st to 10th level.

D&D 5E (2014) New Spellcasting Blocks for Monsters --- Why?!

No, I don't think he can. What he SHOULD have is maximized lightning bolt at-will. I mean, he needs to be scary. He IS scary, he has some frightful combat abilities, but OTOH, it is disappointing that he is stripped down to a combat encounter. With prestidigitation.

Spelljammer A look at 30 Spelljammer Minis

I like them a lot. Don't want to pay that dang much though. I would just photoshop them into Roll20, good enough.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e - Tales of the Old Margreve (Roll20) Campaign Recaps

The PCs STEAMROLLED the next encounter at the bandit tower; just, absolutely annihilated it and hardly took any damage.
