    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 - Do magic weapons bypass resistance now?

One of my absolute favorite fights from Curse of Strahd was when the PCs fought a vampire spawn at low level, had no good way to really hurt it, and used the druid's bear shape to wrestle it into a creek so that running water annihilated the spawn. It got carried downstream, screaming and...

D&D 5E (2014) The books I used for 5E game prep this week (in pictures) [+]

That certainly is a good one. I just run games online and I don't actually use books anymore. I do drag and drop tokens from various monster manuals, that's the closest thing to using a book. If I had to GUESS, I have been using this recently and adapting monsters from it to 5e. Which is mostly...

    Let's Talk About Short Campaigns

My recent campaigns have all been rather long, 1.5- 2 years. That's fine, I like them, but I think moving forward I'm going to do 6 month stories and try different game systems. There's so many great games, and while I like 5e, it's just one of many. If time were no issue I would rerun the...

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

How rare is that to cross $2 million?

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

I am glad I have a stack of old board games that I have not used and can fall back on for a long while if necessary, but this is terrible, terrible news for small publishers. It could take years for the repercussions of this to balance out again.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is no one talking about THE BOOK OF MANY THINGS?

I thought it was a great product. I got the digital version. I introduced a Deck to my Spelljammer game, but the players never used it and I eventually phased it out, and ultimately used nothing from the Book. I would have integrated some side plots if they actually utilized it (the Donjon...

    ALIEN RPG Launches New Kickstarter

I bought 1e too. They're good, but the game was a little more complex than what we wanted. Mothership would probably tell the same kind of story just as well if not better. I won't be getting 2nd edition, but from the little I've seen it looks better.

Has Wizards of the Coast Given Up on Sigil?

The only way this could have succeeded long term was to to sell module packages with bundled 3D maps and minis. I guess the cost to produce such products and the time needed was way beyond their projected returns.

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

I ran a Powered by the Apocalypse Dungeon World mini-campaign (9 sessions) and I had a really hard time wrapping my head around the flow of the game. I didn't particularly enjoy it, and didn't have a desire to run it again.

D&D 5E (2014) Which was the most recent Wizards adventure you consider a classic?

Lost Mine of Phandelver qualifies as classic. If you can combine it with Stormspire, you have a whole campaign in the region.

Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's VTT, Officially Launches

I think eventually they will have a full campaign rolled out for purchase, but they need to iron this thing out first, establish price points and how they're going to do microtransactions. Fully painted 3D model monsters is too rich a resource to ignore.

Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's VTT, Officially Launches

I guess they might offer a bundle discount on the two digital products, but the print one will remain its own thing. I also imagine they want to move away from print books and transition to digital. If they can sell maps and models like they did plastic miniatures and plastic props and grids...

Sigil, Wizards of the Coast's VTT, Officially Launches

Down the road, post-beta, if you can buy an adventure module for $50 and it has all the 3D maps and assets built in, that would be incentive to switch to this VTT.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

I find balancing fights to be interesting are so much harder when the PCs are demi-gods. Even by 10th level I am pretty much done with D&D. It becomes more "work" than I enjoy doing. At lower levels I can eyeball a battle on the fly and it will work out. Not so with 15th level PCs.

Yeah, that one. Hadn't heard anything in quite some time. It looked....interesting.
