    Secrets of Sarlona is here...

The book specifically addresses the issue of playing either a loyal (and ignorant) agent of the Inspired, or a rebel within that society. The commoners simply don't realize that their leaders are the bad guys, and even elite operatives may be Lawful Good. And if Detect Evil registers their...

    Secrets of Sarlona is here...

RPGs are all about plagiarism and emulation, aren't they? I go back to 1st Edition AD&D, so it's interesting to me to see how D&D drew upon the fantasy of the 1930s through the 1970s --- Moorcock and Tolkein and Leiber and Howard --- then gradually solidified into something that was uniquely...

    Secrets of Sarlona is here...

Just sorta skimmed through it so far. Early impression is that this would be an outstanding setting for a campaign featuring psionics. I'm getting even more of a Stargate SG1 vibe from our evil empire of the Inspired --- we have alien entities possessing human forms and controlling vast...

Your Prc gets nerfed!!! what to do?

Good point re: Pokemount. But are the changes to the weretouched master affecting the flavor or just the power level?

Your Prc gets nerfed!!! what to do?

I'm not sure that I would call my salary being reduced by 75% "the same feeling" as having my D&D character scaled back to the same power levels as the other PCs. Setting aside the whole "reality" issue...while larger salary is just plain better than a smaller one, a more powerful character is...

Your Prc gets nerfed!!! what to do?

Perhaps so, but if he wants to keep playing this character, it comes down to either a change with an in-game explanation (i.e., Mystra dies), or a change without an in-game explanation (i.e., FR 2.0 ---> 3.0). Interestingly, I've never heard anyone complain about continuity when errata or new...

Your Prc gets nerfed!!! what to do?

You could always put the PC through some torture via an overzealous Silver Flame inquisitor...once he's been pricked with a thousand alchemical silver needles, he could reasonably suffer a permanent weakening of his quasi-lycanthropic abilities.

    Secrets of Sarlona ToC

Yeah...which is a bit of a switch from the standard RPG gazetteer format. Not a bad idea at all --- although I enjoy reading the traditional format, putting the emphasis on a few key places and people makes it a lot more gameable.

    Secrets of Sarlona ToC

Fist of Dal Quor - The Fists of Dal Quor are a combat order drawing supernatural power from the Region of Dreams. Haztaratain - The ascetic nature of the Haztaratain order appeals to those who focus on self-mastery; its martial spirit draws those who concentrate on might rather than mysticism.

    Secrets of Sarlona ToC

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20070205a This looks good. It will be interesting to see how some of the psionic races are integrated into the setting. Nice place to visit, that Sarlona. Or if you like psionics and monks and being badly outnumbered by otherplanar spirits...

See feats from Secrets of Sarlona here!

Works for me. Sarlona = "The Mysterious Orient" of pulpy Eberron, without being overtly Asian to the extent of, say, Kara-Tur. And that makes Xendrik the Africa of the setting --- strange ruins, lost kingdoms, unfriendly natives, etc. --- without all of the baggage associated with a more...

Looking forward to Secrets of Sarlona?

In keeping with the pulpish nature of Eberron, I'm thinking of Sarlona as being "the mysterious Orient" of the setting --- evil masterminds, exotic cultures, strange powers of mind and body, etc. And I like the fact that it can fill this role without being overtly Asian . . . keeps it fresh.

Looking forward to Secrets of Sarlona?

I sure am. Not quite sure what to expect of it. Just bought "Dragonmarked" a week or two ago, and I've been in hip deep in Eberron ever since. Any previews out there I've overlooked?

    Any love for Jakandor?

I thought the book on the wizard culture was great....the barbarian book, less so.

    D&D Rules Compendium (Hardcover) - October 2007

But given a whole new bunch of rules to riff off of, wouldn't a lot of publishers do their own swashbuckler book, warlock book, etc?

    D&D Rules Compendium (Hardcover) - October 2007

It just occurs to me that this would be a great way to give open gaming a shot in the arm --- take stuff that has proven popular or useful* --- warlocks, swashbucklers, swift and immediate actions, various feats --- put it all in one book, and make it all open. It would almost be like Edition...

    D&D Rules Compendium (Hardcover) - October 2007

About a week back, I suggested that WotC needs to do a compilation of the stuff that is getting cross-referenced the most these days --- especially the more popular non-PHB base classes like the warlock. Now here's a notion...what if all of this stuff is going to be released as open content?

    [Devil’s Workshop] Abortion and D20?

Jim, is there any way for me to read this thing other that purchasing it, or are you saying that the only intelligent way to decide whether it's worth buying is to buy it? Urizen, same question. Anytime we decide whether to buy a PDF, we are doing so based on "speculation"...but hopefully...

    [Devil’s Workshop] Abortion and D20?

Jim, now that you've said flatout that you bought it, I won't call you a liar. The fact remains that there's nothing in your review that couldn't've been written sight unseen. After making such a big deal about the kneejerk hyenapack over on RPG.net, it would've been pretty amazing if you had...

d20 Modern - Best mechanics to develop a super soldier?

Try the Helix Warrior prestige class from the Future SRD. I think it could use some tweaks, but it's a start. That's if you want gradual development. You could also just slap on a template --- say, +4 Str, Dex, and Con, maybe a few bonus feats --- Alertness, Eidetic Memory, Iron Will, etc.
