    D&D 5E (2014) Goldilocks Poll: Counterspell

As usual they've made this more complex than it really needs to be, rendering it an incredibly rare action in my xp. In all the years I've been running/playing 5e? I've seen 3 spells countered. One by myself. Two by another player. And I've yet to see it done in 3x/PF1.

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

Deadly. Two (of three) PCs died. Both to random encounters - before reaching the "adventure site". And it was the players own fault. I'm running a 5e version of Ravenloft II: House on Gryphon Hill. In this adventure the alchemist Strahd has built a mad science device & has been experimenting...

Do that. Personally I liked the Essentials adventure a bit more than the Starter one.

    D&D 5E (2014) Any Adventure Recommendations?

Define "Next week". Is that Sunday? Wed? Or next Sat? How long do you have? Have you had your session 0, created characters, everyone know what to expect/on the same page? Do you know what you're working with character wise - races/classes, backstory wise? Does that stuff matter to you/your...

    D&D 3.x 3.X Retrospective 19 Years in Production.

3xPF1 can be as broken or not broken as your group chooses to allow it to be. Had my Sunday group not torn itself apart player-wise over politics I'm sure I'd still either be running or playing PF1. Sadly.... :( In our 5e game? We have one guy who loves 3.5 Two of us have PF1 xp. Another...

D&D General Nobody likes an edition warrior.

Your annoyed that people dislike playing games with mechanics they don't understand.... Well that's mighty dickish of you. It shouldn't be any surprise that if you don't understand the mechanics that your enjoyment of the game would suffer. Logically leading to "I don't like to play ______."

D&D General Nobody likes an edition warrior.

We could but there'd be little point as the statement is true whatever the year/dueling product. Also won't change the fact that my small towns only video store was 99% VHS. I could watch maybe a hundred Beta titles. Or hundreds on VHS. Good thing Dad bought a VHS for whatever reason. :)

    D&D and the rising pandemic

Some good news here in Ohio (USA). Our governor just opened vaccinations up to those 50+ (as well as some others with assorted medical conditions, etc). Means this Thur. I can start looking for a vaccination.

D&D General What Have You Liked Most About Each Edition (+)

Yes, really. As I've stated before, I gave 4e a fair shot. I DM'd it for a year. I then played it from the PC side of the screen for a 2nd year. In those 2 years I thoroughly determined that I disliked the edition.

    Where's Mom?

I guess it'd depend upon how likely the PCs are to seriously pursue this thread. If they just need an explanation? I'd go with she felt trapped in the town/life she was living. So she ran off with the traveling priest. Was it for love? Was it for a bit of adventure? Some degree of both...

What normally happens after a TPK?

The usual result is that the game resets to new characters & new story. Often accompanied by a rotation in DMs. Sometimes though it makes sense storywise that new characters, henchmen, followers, etc can pick up from the original PCs. In that case the same game continues. A third common...

    Axis & Allies

I hear that. When I play Japan the only defensive thing I do is put 1-2 infantry onto Japan proper each turn. Other than that every action I take is some sort of offense.

    D&D 5E (2014) RIP alignment

It's not a problem for me. It's a problem for others. I mean, if they'd read & understood the pages and concepts they'd not be upset with seeing an alignment listed for a creature. They'd know it's just (generally) the most common al. Of the creature encountered - like average HP. I wonder if...

D&D General What Have You Liked Most About Each Edition (+)

Yes, I liked how the books were written as simply largely assuming the reader was familiar with whatever Gygax was talking about & understood the words/terms being used. Very much a "There it is kid, figure it out, catch up to us...." vibe. As 12 year Olds we looked up plenty of things in...

    D&D 5E (2014) RIP alignment

So because these people cant (wont) manage to: A) read the intro page of the MM & apply that, B) Realize that they are playing a game where anything & everything can be changed to suit their groups preferences, Everyone else gets alignment stripped out of the game.

D&D General What Have You Liked Most About Each Edition (+)

Assorted versions of Basic+: Where I {briefly} started out. Recognizing the endless possibilities stretching out ahead of me..... The art. The adventures. And then we rather quickly moved on to 1e where there were better rules for doing some of what we envisioned. And more...

That's fine, I'll tell you all about it verbally. :) But seriously, for those of you don't really care about what I've got to say about my character? How much are you expecting me to care about your world/story/adventure? Hope you don't mid if I largely tune out after about 15 sentences...
