D&D General Old School DND talks if DND is racist.

Oh, to be fair the players didn't kill them because they were orcs/goblins/gnolls or whatever. They killed them because they were the opponents of the moment. They were the opponents of the moment because that's what fit that point in the story.

As I said, let's assume that answer is yes. The question though is if you strip those out, what takes their place? And what's after that when you lot decide this new default evil thing should be promoted to playable character/"people" status.

D&D General Old School DND talks if DND is racist.

Let's assume I do. If for no other reason than just to break up the monotony of killing yet more human bandits, low lv undead, & lesser devils/fiends. I'm not running GoT, I'm running D&D. Home of all manner of monstrous humanoids (many with a penchant for eating humans/elves/etc) & many whom...

    Axis & Allies

One of my circles of friends & I have been playing A&A about every 6 weeks or so for the past several years. This past year, with everything shut down due to the pandemic, we actually played more - every three weeks on average. Our usual version of choice is the A&A anniversary edition. But...

What the hell am I supposed to use as the generic evil non-human humanoid antagonists then?

No, you're cautioned that if you do change them that you do so with some consideration.

You didn't READ what I was replying to (I did quote it) did you? The person I was responded to is under the mistaken notion that there was nothing in the game in the late '70s/'79 indicating orcs etc could be of differing alignments. And I'm sure there's such words of advice in 2e, & 3x. I...

Those were the Mordian Iron Guard: sporting re-sculpted heads with pith helmets instead of the caps in the first pic (some included beards as well)" LOL. REALLY? The company that made & sold these guys (pygmies, from WHFB 3rd ed): and later used orks to stand in for the Zulus vs those...

Yeah, except for those sections in the intros of the various books that explicitly tell you that in this game you should feel free to change anything you please. I, a decently intelligent 11/12 year old, read those pages in Basic & 1e and understood perfectly well that I could (for example)...

D&D General BULLYWUGS OF THE BOG! (D&D toys)

I would get more of them. And some of the other monsters, + several of the characters - enough to make a party. Then I'd stat up the characters (about a dozen were in "Quest for the Heartstone"), mount things on roughly 60mm bases (or as would fit) and make a one shot 3d dungeon/adventure...

D&D General Homewbrew Campaigns: How Old Is Your World?

Sometime in 1980-81/82. It was before we got hold of the Expert set & any AD&D rulebooks. At first we didn't have a "world". Just adventures each adding a bit of detail if needed. Sort of like watching an ink blot spread. Then for some reason we needed something more. So I drew a rough map...
