D&D 5E (2014) [CAMPAIGN] Out of the Abyss [SPOILERS]

MADNESS OF BAPHOMET MADNESS OF BAPHOMET: If a creature goes mad, roll d100 to see what type of madness afflicts them (lasts until cured by greater restoration). 01-20 "My anger consumes me. I can't be reasoned with when my rage has been stoked." Effect: When you engage in battle, you will not...

I have Baphomet done. I'll post it when I get home.

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

The monsters aren't fine. This whole INT and WIS talk is garbage. As I said, Smaug did not have to hide. He crushed an entire dwarven city. The heroes of the story had next to no hope beating Smaug in a straight up fight, some of them were the greatest dwarven heroes of their time with the...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

I do not mind the same tactics over and over again. It is how I play and enjoy playing. That was never my gripe. We play the way we do because we enjoy it, including myself. My gripes are as follows: 1. Monster Manual monsters are often too weak as written to challenge PCs. They lack essential...

    D&D 5E (2014) CHALLENGE: Change one thing about 5e

Take the fighter you just made, factor in that his magic armor doesn't take an attunement slot, then factor in the shield spell. That 26 goes to a 31 where as Mr. Sorcerer is 4 points behind at 27. The sorcerer had to use all his attunement slots on defensive magic items to come close to...

So true for Perception and Stealth.

    D&D 5E (2014) CHALLENGE: Change one thing about 5e

Bounded Accuracy. I'd adjust the range of ACs in Bounded Accuracy. I might hardcap AC. Right now the problems I'm having with Bounded Accuracy: 1. PC AC: If you're not wearing plate armor, you're way too easy to hit, especially casters. With lower hit points and lower AC, you become too soft a...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

Not really the case in 5E. ACs are very close in this game. You can make a heavy armor archer with good hit points. Ranged attackers don't have to be soft targets in 5E.

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

How often do you do this? How often do you in essence use DM caveat to render their character choices moot and thus disempower the players and the choices they made? What percentage of the time? If a rogue or bard build to be highly stealthy or the wizard/warlock uses their owl or invisible imp...

D&D 5E (2014) Helping melee combat to be more competitive to ranged.

What if your players scout ahead using high stealth and perception with the intent of using ranged attacks to their advantage? Do you prevent them from doing this? And if so, in what percentage of encounters do you disallow this option?

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing

Paladin and warlock are the two most powerful multiclass combos with fighter a close third. Those are the three classes that allow for the most powerful combinations. Paladin for smiting, warlock for multiple reasons but mainly eldritch blast with charisma bonus damage and short rest renewable...

    D&D 5E (2014) last encounter was totally one-sided

LMoP was the best module I've played they've produced. That was a good, fun, challenging module. It was low level. Our complaints aren't about low level. Low level is easy to challenge, always has been in any edition.

    D&D 5E (2014) last encounter was totally one-sided

I'll keep on saying what I believe to be true. That the six to eight encounter day is not required and the modules aren't built with that requirement as you keep attempting to assert. Creating optional dungeons is not requiring the 6 to 8 encounter day you and others keep throwing out as some...

    D&D 5E (2014) last encounter was totally one-sided

This argument is endless. There are always people claiming, "If you play this certain way, everything will run ok." I know from my experience this is false. My group destroyed all the modules they put out, often fighting more than six to eight encounters per day adding in only feats and the...

    D&D 5E (2014) last encounter was totally one-sided

Once again, not a single one of those encounters requires 6 to 8 encounters. How do I as a DM force them to follow the paradigm? And you do not measure the quality of the challenge for each encounter? So how exactly are you claiming the game designers account for this by creating encounters that...

    D&D 5E (2014) last encounter was totally one-sided

They have dropped the ball in high level design in every edition. It's disappointing that 5th is the same way. It's another edition of D&D that works great to level 7 to 9, then falls apart horribly making DMing hard. I don' t like the 7-9 level game over and over and over again. I like to play...

    D&D 5E (2014) last encounter was totally one-sided

I own up to Out of the Abyss. You are flat out wrong and need to look again. The closest to 6 to 8 a day is the Temple module. All the others use a lot more one or two day encounters or a variety of very weak encounters far below what would constitute challenging for 6-8 encounters a day for a...

    D&D 5E (2014) last encounter was totally one-sided

Yes. It has been ignored. Not a single module made it so you had to do 6-8 encounters a day. Not one. The only module that came close up to Out of the Abyss was the Princes of the Apocalypse module. Those encounters were built weak and did not require 6 to 8 encounters a day at all. You could do...

    D&D 5E (2014) last encounter was totally one-sided

There's a few reasons for this. We may eventually go back to Pathfinder. It's been discussed. Right now, no one wants to return to the complexity and problems of Pathfinder/3E. 3E has its own headaches. I had to heavily modify that game as well, just not quite as much out of the box monster...
