Level Up (A5E) What each tier means

That essay I mentioned pointed out that Gandalf wasn't a mere mortal, but something like a demigod.

Level Up (A5E) What each tier means

Someone wrote an essay that argued all the characters in LotR and GoT are level 4 or less despite being the pinnacle of human accomplishment (Aragorn, for example). Anything beyond that is Greek epic hero territory like Hercules. It was a very good essay and I'm sorry I didn't save a copy...

    D&D General A shorter Appendix N

The High Crusade by Pohl Anderson might be a good one to add to your list. It was definitely an inspiration for some classic modules like Expedition to the Barrier Peaks. I haven't read The Guns of Avalon. I always get it confused with The Guns of Navarone. I'm also enjoying the Appendix N...

D&D 5E (2014) Is this a reasonable ruling re: stunned creatures?

Oh yeah. It just jiggles in place like a bowl full of Jello when stunned. For an animated suit of armor, the helm slumps down and the arms go limp as it appears to reboot itself internally.

D&D 5E (2014) Is this a reasonable ruling re: stunned creatures?

Ever watch boxing? You can tell when a boxer is stunned from a punch and if a subsequent punch does it again. So I don't consider your ruling reasonable. Everyone wants to see that they are being effective in combat so you're also taking away part of the fun of being a monk.

Blog Post: When the PCs Lose the Players Will Win—the Hero’s Journey

Great blog post. Unfortunately, it might be a bit late after Descent into Avernus. I guess we'll see with Rime of the Frost Maiden.

    Pathfinder 2E Crafting Ammunition

In Xanathar's Guide it says you can use your proficiency in Woodcarver's Tools to craft five arrows on a short rest and 20 on a long rest.

    D&D 5E (2014) Bad Wrong Fun

Our DM cut all that nonsense out after he saw our reaction to Candlekeep. I'm glad he did that.

    D&D General Hexploration Design

I didn't like the hexcrawl in Tomb of Annihilation. The random encounters were boring. They took a lot of time for our DM to set up and then they were always too easy. Our DM had problems with pacing the game and the hexcrawl made it worse. I'd rather have the DM pre-plan the encounters...

D&D 5E (2014) Is Intimidate the worse skill in the game?

Because a high roll might mean extraordinary success. Meeting the DC might mean you persuade the bouncer into letting you into the nightclub without waiting in line. Surpassing the DC might means he lets you in without charging the cover. A Nat 20 means he also let's you slip into the VIP lounge.

D&D 5E (2014) Is Intimidate the worse skill in the game?

I like your approach, but I would add that there is a podcast where Jeremy Crawford states that there are passive scores for all abilities/skills (not just perception/investigation) and these represent the floor for your success on a skill check. The die rolls is to see if you succeed beyond...

    D&D 5E (2014) Vengeance pal help

We got one magic item each. I don't know if it was due to the module or our DM. I don't recall any +1 Con items. If you can't get a magic item, get silvered weapons for the whole party. A paladin should know that so hopefully it's not metagaming. Our ranged battle master used sharpshooter...

It is to go with the $99 boxed set I presume.

    D&D 5E (2014) Vengeance pal help

This doesn't directly answer your question, but I played through DiA recently and a 22 AC didn't help as much as having a ton of HP from a 16 Con and Hill Dwarf Toughness. I didn't have problem hitting anything with 18 Str and +1 sword. We use flanking rules so that might have helped to some...

Use of "Professional Language" in Moderator Actions

Does the TOS for keeping it civil and inclusive apply to the mods as well? Isn't that all the OP is asking for? You've referred to this site as a private gathering and I like that metaphor. But is it more like a public house?

D&D 5E (2014) Experimental Concentration Spell Stacking Houserule

Your system seems complex but I'm interested in hearing how it works for your group. I'm guessing it's too OP. Here's a simpler idea: create a feat called Dual Caster that allows them to cast two concentration spells but only control one per turn. So if they cast two flaming spheres they...

D&D 5E (2014) How to RP an accidental BardLock

You think your amazing charisma is a result of your natural charm and good looks. In fact it is a boon conferred by your patron to acquire more souls. Every time you go to a town and visit a tavern you will pick out one soul to ensnare. You cast Charm Person* on them and compel them to listen...

D&D 5E (2014) Quick question - tool that allows me to plan a character from levels 1-20?

You can export the character to a PDF at each level on Dndbeyond. For Roll20 you can just export them to your character vault after each level. You don't have to buy anything if you don't mind typing it all in manually.
