    Looking for D&D-like alternatives to D&D 5e

For Crunchy, Tactical, and Plays Fast you could look into Mythras or similar BRP derived games. For Crunchy, Tactical, and On a Grid you could look into Pathfinder 2e or 4e d&d. For Tactical, On a Grid, and Plays Fast you could look into Basic D&D or other OSR retroclones. You cannot and will...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Drained reduces max HP and can last multiple days after being inflicted. ex: Yellow Mold - Hazards - Archives of Nethys: Pathfinder 2nd Edition Database Various afflictions can cause enfeebled, clumsy, etc can similarly last multiple days. These cannot be removed without a 3rd rank spell...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

This matches my experience with all 3 different parties I've run pf2 for.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Additional played experience - I have had two PC deaths in my campaigns - one due to critical hit massive damage and a second due to persistent damage. Neither are things that Hero Points can help much with. I have had 2 other instances where critical hits could have caused instant death due...

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Agree. I've also done the opposite: Running a PF1 adventure (RotRL) and converting it to PF2. No significant issues.

D&D 5E (2014) Which PC would you Haste?

Haste doesn't let you use Multiattack.

OSR This tells me OSR is alive and well.

I imagine this is since the 3 big B/X retroclones - Basic Fantasy, LotFP, and Lab. Lord all bolted on a more detailed encumbrance system to the B/X chassis. Nobody played with the "real" encumbrance rules until OSE released them unmodified.

OSR This tells me OSR is alive and well.

Same. As an example, at a FLGS rpg event near me, the 5e table had 6 players and the indie game table had 2. No one was interested in switching tables.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Not rolling dice is really the worst part of it for me.

Oh absolutely, I won't fight you on that.

OSR This tells me OSR is alive and well.

There's few places on the internet more insufferable than the r/osr subreddit.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Only option I can think of which fits into this category is Cypher system, or MAYBE the x Without Number books.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Exactly. PF2E does not work that way and will not work for the playstyle you have. You have a razors edge to work with since the balance is so good. No, you don't need system mastery to build encounters. You just need to be able to read a chart and do basic addition, or use a tool like Yet...

OSR Question about OSE's box sets

I don't think that OSE was expected to blow up like it did. He was originally appealing to die-hard B/X fans who'd both understand and want the different lines. And then the project exploded and 1070% funded, then became even more popular from there.

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

Very unlikely you'll get a satisfying game doing this with any d20 game, honestly. These are easy to make but I wouldn't recommend doing them at the table. There are charts which you can easily derive values from as long as you know what level you want the monster/item to be. Only takes a...

OSR Question about OSE's box sets

The box sets are helpful for players because you can hand the spell/character books to your players and hold onto the treasure/monster books for yourself. Its easier to physically pass things like the spell books around the table for the player that needs it rather than everyone competing over...

What do you mean by 'play fast and loose'?

Pathfinder 2E I think I am giving up on PF2ER

You don't need to know everything starting out - internalize the most important items and start playing. There's no shame in quickly looking things up as you go. You shouldn't have to learn everything on your own. Your players should be putting in equivalent effort to learn to play rather...
