Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

but it works better as a game. Also, in world there is no distinction between the two, preserving is weaker than defiling, who can say which of the two is ‘normal’. If everyone made $1000 a month for defiling or $800 with preserving, that is the same as $1250 and $1000 respectively. That $1000...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

it’s mentioned as a setting in the 2024 DMG, I don’t think it would be in there if the decision to release it had not been made by then yet, so none of the recent people. Could also have just been a change of mind or a matter of finding the right angle for a reboot. From almost getting killed...

you could always change the baseline, the preserving casting is the one you are used to while defiling is automatically upcast

should be Restoration Preserving still defiles, just less, so things can recover, there is no real non-defiling yes, anyone else should still be defiling/preserving (as in defiling less)

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

maybe, but the reverse seems to also be true. Some people just object to everything WotC does and would be way less critical if a 3pp were to release the exact same book probably same

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

the level of screwup is in the eye of the beholder. If nothing but a carbon copy will do, that is on (general) you. I am sure there are people that think they screwed up DL or Planescape, just like there are ones that do not think so. The same will be true here. I think they could stick the...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

the less things there are to go by, the less that thing has an identity. If I call a car ‘car’, but call a bus, plane, and boat ‘car’ as well, I lost meaning and ‘car’ is now basically just ‘vehicle’ If you removed ‘snake hair’ instead of ‘female’, a female basilisk would now be a medusa

Ben Riggs: 'The Golden Age of TTRPGs is Dead'

yes, it is a specific setting, and maybe that limits its appeal. I for one am curious about the setting (assume they will release a book on it), at least it is not another FR derivative

they can, but if they are going to create a setting with similar themes, they are going to use the familiar name, not a new one so, let them have a shot at a new DS setting for 5e then?

if they can do it for D&D, what stops them from doing it for DH? The premise what that DH is not ready for this kind of sweeping show yet while 2024 is (“Yah, it would be a heavy lift for a new game as light on material as it is.”). If they have to create a lot of stuff either way, then that...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

we did get Radiant Citadel. Did it sell? no idea, but you cannot say that WotC does not try new things. Also, given how many complaints there are about how the setting by the same name is so drastically different, you cannot even say that they always just recycle the same stuff. They just reuse...
