    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

Agreed, I would add that Bladesinger is a very good multiclass option for either of those choices mentioned. This gives each choice more spellcasting, without sacrificing the ability to do reasonable damage with a weapon.

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

The spells are fantastic, and mix well with the abilities (which is why I rated a pure Bladesinger green when played as a primary spellcaster instead of a melee character). However, the spells, for the most part, don't increase offensive abilities (haste or magic weapon are probably your best...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e's new gender policy - is it attracting new players?

Generally, I don't think D&D should deal much with sexuality, since sex and gender aren't a particularly big part of the game. The PHB saying you can be "whatever you want to be" without any effect on mechanics when it comes to gender/sexuality is of course exactly what it should say. As for...

My "Out of the Abyss" House Rules

These are the House Rules I'm using for my current Out of the Abyss campaign. They are a mix of house rules I've developed on my own, and house rule ideas I've found online that I thought were excellent. Campaign House Rules: Out of the Abyss Character Creation: Races: Variant Human: The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Cracking 5th Edition Article

This is the main takeaway I had from your article. If we are going to give a +1 to every ability score 36 mp (I love "Mearls" points by the way, very cool) and we are going to give two +1's in the location of the player's choice 12 mp, then right away this system does not work for evaluating...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

Sure thing, I'll take a look tomorrow. OK, so I'm going to disagree with you on a few points here. Let's go through point by point. Yes it's 3 dimensions, but 30' cube (15' diameter) is quite a small area for the level. That said, if the damage was concentrated enough that wouldn't be an...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

Oh, I've had some activity here in the past week. Sorry for the delay in response Love it! Added the suggestion to the guide and gave you credit. Thanks! Full marks for being creative! I agree that "animate" is pretty subjective, so the mileage here is going to depend on the DM.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Best Gish (Spell-Sword)

I was discussing gish builds with a Friend this week. A few combos we like: Fighter 1/Warlock 8 - you mentioned this already, this is just agreement that it works nicely Paladin 2/Warlock 7 - This one doesn't get pointed out as much, but I think it's really good. You add in 2 extra...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mid-level Versatility

Variant Human is always a decent alternative for pretty much any build. Personally, using the Stat array - I would probably stat it out (with Half Elf) Str: 10 Dex: 12 Con: 13+1=14 Int: 15+1=16 Wis: 14 Cha: 8+2=10 Edit: There is a decent case for going 12 Con, 14 Dex as well. Comes down to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mid-level Versatility

:) yeah I got that. I just wanted to qualify my response as it was not going to fill all those requirements! Hopefully it presented some ideas of value. I did think your perceptive on skills was a good point. I think the skills that contain the greatest value are those with a set difficulty...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mid-level Versatility

Ah, that's easy enough. This is an entirely different request. Now we are at: 1) Versatile 2) Self-sufficient It just got a lot harder. Honestly, there isn't a "self-sufficient" class in the game. Challenges are designed to be encountered with a team, and for a single party member, may be...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon Crawl Party Advice

I'm not sure that any classes are required, but in a dungeon crawl there are certain roles you need to fill: 1) Investigation skill: Anyone can have this, though Rogues, Lore Bards and Wizards are likely going to be better than anyone else 2) Perception skill: Rogues, Lore Bards, Clerics and...

D&D 5E (2014) How to get advantage as critting great weapon fighter?

There are of course lots of ways to create advantage with some teamwork - As mentioned, Wolf Totem Barbarian (probably the easiest and most reliable) - Faerie Fire spell from a support caster - Grease spell from a support caster - Tasha's Hideous Laughter from support caster - OK, the list of...

D&D 5E (2014) How to get advantage as critting great weapon fighter?

There are other players correct? Why not collaborate with one of them? Maybe one of them could take the Wolf Totem Barbarian for example...

D&D 5E (2014) Short Rests: How many does your group get/take between long rests, on average?

Yeah, bad news for Warlocks in our group. 1 short rest on average (sometimes none)

Sword Coast Legends is not D&D

My wife and I have been playing Divinity: Original Sin. It is a multiplayer that uses turn-based combat. I would love to see a D&D game built a similar way. However, to the OP I recommend looking up Divinity O.S. on Steam, it's a good buy.

    D&D 5E (2014) Char Ops forums: Something I wish hadn't come over.

I've certainly played with both kinds of player. I absolutely agree that someone who seeks to dominate the action will make the game less fun for everyone else, whatever you call that playstyle. I guess my final point on this thread is that people who write or comment on guides or character...
