D&D General Can I use your character for an NPC in my new market?

Gurpleburg Oontz ("Babbling brook, single drop" in Aquan)- water genasi barbarian, but an erudite barbarian. He reads and writes, he casts (a few) spells (from his race and the gate warden background from Planescape), his "rage" is actually letting the River Oceanus flow through him and has...

    D&D General Do THIS, WotC!

Something in the style of 3e's Unearthed Arcana- a book of alternate rules, allowing for a lot more customization and fine tuning of the game toward different playstyles.

The EVERY CLASS EVER List: Can You Add to It?

Duskblade, ardent, runepriest, seeker, and jock are ones I can think of off the top of my head that aren't on the list yet. Yes, the jock was an adventuring class from Dragon Magazine back in the day, albeit one from (as I recall) an April issue.

    Show your game prep notes

These are my notes for the first adventure I'm running for one group that is playing my custom system ("DnD Jazz"): (EDIT: Maps not included. They are hand drawn and the city map is something like 3' x 4'.) ADVENTURERS’ INITIATION The pcs are the next group of possible initiates into the...

What are you reading in 2025?

Currently reading Morning Star, the third Red Rising book. Then on to Harrow the Ninth. And I just finished Snuff, by Terry Pratchett, who is an author about as enjoyable and humorous as Douglas Adams for me.

Looking for a properly bleak game for a paper.

Perhaps Paranoia? It's very funny, but a constant series of disasters for the pcs.

Describe your last rpg session in 5 words

    Rassled with a storm giant.

Describe your last rpg session in 5 words

    The Enterprise through the ages

I really like the Sovereign (E) design. My second favorite is the refit (A)/original Enterprise. The Galaxy class is really far down my list- probably last. I just don't like its looks, and never have.

    Do You Care About Cosmology?

Yes... with caveats. I want to know what my character would know. So it depends/somewhere in between. Yes.

    OOTS 1327: Tooth or Consequences

Awesome!!! One of my personal favorites returns!

Goodman Games: Our Efforts Have Been Mischaracterized

Yeah, but it's neither an adventure or a setting, although it includes some setting material. It's a whole system. That said, I love me some Arduin.

Goodman Games Revives Relationship With Anti-Semitic Publisher For New City State Kickstarter [UPDATED]

Or maybe he meant what he said at the time, but something or someone persuaded him to change his position. I don't think it's too generous to acknowledge that Goodman isn't necessarily a liar. Sometimes things change. Which isn't to justify that change- I think it was probably a bad decision-...

D&D Debuts Playtest for Psion Class

Is there any way to get new UA stuff without a D&D Beyond account? For some reason I can't sign up and it's very annoying.

What are you reading in 2025?

Currently reading Neal Stephenson's Termination Shock. As usual, his work is pretty dense, though this one isn't as dense as, say, Cryptonomicon. It's a big fat book with a lot of moving parts. I'm loving it.

    D&D 5E (2024) Chance for a warlord?

Temporary hit points and raising a pc's current and maximum hps are both good ways around this.

    Arrive AT or Arrive TO?

Arrive at. I also find constructions such as "different to" very weird- to me, it's "different from".

D&D General Lego Sandbox vs Open Sandbox (and other sandbox discussion)

It seems like any stuff that you have pre-built in your setting, such as a pre-existing dungeon or an area that has detailed politics, leans into lego sandboxing by this definition. So I guess, by dint of having lots of details in my setting worked out, I lean toward lego sandboxing. But I think...

D&D General Would You Play High Level (12-15);Wiith Pre Generated Characters? Mostly 5.0/5.5 but theoretically any edition.

As a one-shot or limited run, sure. For a regular long term campaign, I'd probably decline- I want to make my own character. I am fine with the DM giving me whatever equipment, though.
