Jeremy Crawford Interview: The Monster Manual and More

The Ophanim are the “wheels within wheels” with eyes that are described in Ezekiel. Nephilim are the “giants” in Genesis 6:4, the children of the “sons of God,” which were killed during the Flood. They’re also mentioned in Numbers and Ezekiel. Archangels, in my approach to them, would just be...

Jeremy Crawford Interview: The Monster Manual and More

Angel (which comes from the Greek term “angelos,” meaning “messenger”) is typically the translation of the term “malachim,” (which also means “messenger.”) There are divine entities in the Bible that aren’t described as being messengers, such as the Ophanim, Cherubim, Nephilim, and Seraphim. In...

Jeremy Crawford Interview: The Monster Manual and More

The Seraphim, Ophanim, and Cherubim are divine creatures that serve God, but they’re not described as angels (malachim). But later writers did interpret them as angels.

Evil Drow Statblocks to Return in Forgotten Realms Rulebooks Later This Year

That is not why they got rid of the Drow stat blocks in the Monster Manual.

Evil Drow Statblocks to Return in Forgotten Realms Rulebooks Later This Year

The Conquest Paladin in my Dragon Heist campaign did almost die to them, but then looted their pistols and continued to use those every now and then for the rest of the campaign. We thought a terrifying knight in full plane with a gun was both funny and cool.

Evil Drow Statblocks to Return in Forgotten Realms Rulebooks Later This Year

I wonder if they’ll reprint the Drow Gunslinger stat block that was in Waterdeep: Dragon Heist.

Evil Drow Statblocks to Return in Forgotten Realms Rulebooks Later This Year

The Forgotten Realms is big. Like ridiculously big. So big that there have been decades of supplements, novels, and video games exploring the setting, and they still haven’t done anything with the Fantasy Australia continent. The bigness of the setting is actually one of my main issues with it...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

They may say that, but words and deeds often tell different stories.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Okay, fine. You guys want to portray the side I’m on as being intolerant of other perspectives and wrong because of our surety that our way is right, and yours as the scrappy underdogs fighting against oppression. Sure. That’s precisely the sort of “co-opting inclusive sounding language” I was...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Lol. Literally every time a new 5e book comes out or is announced, a certain group of people rush to discussions about it to trash them over not following the “one true way” they felt was abandoned when WotC announced they were going to get rid of the racism in the game.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Yes, but the original meaning of the phrase, at least in my experience, meant “you’re making a mountain out of a molehill.” Not “stop talking about this, because it’s just a game and you shouldn’t care about issues like this.” It is just a game. I think there’s a time and a place for “it’s an...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

It is interesting to me that when one side of the argument has learned that their previous arguments weren’t working and big companies like WotC have stuck with their current inclusive direction, they don’t for a second reconsider their stance. Many of the things they want to say are typical...

I always thought Orcs follow Orcus. Also, if it does come from Orcus, I believe that would make it a cognate with “Ogre.”

Grendel in Beowulf is called an “orcneas.”

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

If D&D were to get rid of/change any of the Archfiends, Baphomet would probably be the first to go, given the main theory around the origin of his name is it’s a corruption of “Muhammad.” I personally don’t think it’s a problem, because D&D Baphomet clearly isn’t based on Muhammad and his...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

I don’t think including entities from dead religions is as much of an issue. The Gnostic groups that believed in Sophia died out long ago. It’s annoying how D&D used to make so many female characters and monsters be naked. And I’m pretty sure Sophia isn’t supposed to have a physical form.

D&D 5E (2024) Above the Table Interview with Jeremy Crawford.

Like @Shardstone said, each type of vehicle had its own stat block similar to the approach in Ghosts of Saltmarsh, but the different components of the vehicle had “Action Stations,” where a person could spend the action on their turn to operate it. So one person would control the “steering...

D&D 5E (2024) Above the Table Interview with Jeremy Crawford.

Damn it Wizards! Why can’t they give us actually interesting celestials?! It sucks that this one was cut. Hopefully they end up printing it in a different book or Monstrous Compendium. There are over twice as many Celestials in the 2024 Monster Manual than there were in the 2014 one, but that’s...
