D&D 5E (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

You cannot be serious. Please explain in what way Descent into Avernus, Ravenloft, Icewind Dale, and Netherdeep are “Disney Heroic” without cherry-picking the two or three cute/silly images from the books. 5e art has stylistic and thematic diversity. You’re just upset that there’s not any...

D&D 5E (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

I, for one, am happy that D&D moved beyond the racist and sexist Conan-style art before I started playing the game.

WotC Hasbro CEO Chris Cox talks about D&D on NPRs Here & Now. Topics include Layoffs and OGL.

Fully agreed. People online are really a small bubble not necessarily (or often) representative of reality. I’ve seen several people online claiming that the D&D movie’s underperformance at the box office was mostly due to the OGL boycotts.

D&D General Which Gods/Pantheons do you use in your D&D setting?

May I ask why? It doesn't to me, and I'm curious why you feel this way.

D&D General Which Gods/Pantheons do you use in your D&D setting?

(I'm not trying to tell you that you're wrong, just share my stance on this issue and why I feel this way.) In my opinion and experience, the religions and characters that come from settings where gods are both proven to exist and fairly active in the world are much less interesting and...

D&D General If faith in yourself is enough to get power, do we need Wizards and Warlocks etc?

And they're half casters. So even if it was easier (which nothing suggest that it is), then they get less magic than most other casters.

D&D General If faith in yourself is enough to get power, do we need Wizards and Warlocks etc?

Almost all magic comes from the Weave. The different classes just access it differently. Bards use song, poetry, and other words. Paladins swear an oath. Wizards "hack" into it using years of study to find out the right magic words, hand movements, and material components necessary. Sorcerers...

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

My mother fell down at work and broke her arm today. The doctors said the break isn’t too bad, she doesn’t need surgery and it should heal quickly.

D&D 5E (2024) No Dwarf, Halfling, and Orc suborgins, lineages, and legacies

Because this, like the Duergar lore of Moradin blaming them for being mind-controlled by Illithids and Dragonlance’s Cataclysm, is a product of the old method of absolute alignment and terrible misunderstandings of polytheism. Corellon, Moradin, and Dragonlance’s good pantheon are objectively...

    D&D 5E (2024) Here's The New 2024 Player's Handbook Wizard Art

There are only going to be 4 Wizard subclasses in the book. And other books (Tasha's, Xanathar's) have art for every subclass.

Sea Elves aren’t interesting (except in Eberron).

D&D General One thing I hate about the Sorcerer

I prefer Wizards not having the innate spark of magic. I wish Sorcerers leaned into that aspect of their lore more mechanically (something like using Constitution for spellcasting and ignoring verbal/material components). To me, the main lore issue with Sorcerers is when magical ancestry stops...

    D&D 5E (2024) Here's The New 2024 Player's Handbook Wizard Art

Weren’t there some in Ursula Le Guin’s books? Hell, the various tropes and archetypes of magicians that developed into the Gandalf-style wizards has been evolving for thousands of years. The tropes go back to Merlin, Odin, and if you stretch a bit, to the Western misconception of the Magi, none...

D&D General No More Baldur's Gate From Larion: Team Is 'Elated'

. I’m not going to spoil it, but you missed a ton. The Dark Urge is way more involved in the plot than you think it is.

The Created In Fantasy: Warforged, Clockwerks, and other Magical Androids

As for how I use “Created” races, I have a couple home brew versions for my own setting. One of which is the Golmeng, sentient golems with 4 subraces (clay, stone, metal, glass). They were created by Artificers and Wizards that were trying to design golems intelligent enough to complete complex...

The Created In Fantasy: Warforged, Clockwerks, and other Magical Androids

I’m pretty sure they were originally created by the Giants during the ancient Quori-Giant war, but that could just be me misremembering or confusing my own lore for the official Eberron “canon.”

Yes, exactly. The archetypical wizards for me growing up were the ones from Harry Potter and that show. I didn’t read/watch Lord of the Rings until I was in High School.

    D&D 5E (2024) Here's The New 2024 Player's Handbook Wizard Art

I’m not sure about Gaiman, but there are a couple type of “Wizards”/Magicians in the Riordanverse. The first and main type are the Magicians, people descended from Ancient Egyptian magicians that use hieroglyphs and godly powers to do magic. The other type are children of Hekate and other...

D&D 5E (2024) No Dwarf, Halfling, and Orc suborgins, lineages, and legacies

Did you see my recent thread on Aasimar? I created some lore for a game I’m playing in to make them more interesting lore wise and with appearance.
