What VTT(s) do you most dislike and why? (Defenders welcome to defend)

I have Fantasy Grounds Classic Unlimited and Fantasy Grounds Unity unlimited. I've only barely used them. The interface is archaic, and having to get people to install clients is a pain. I used to have firewall problems with Classic so by the time unity came out I was using Foundry and that was...

When did the "C" drop from CRPGs and when did "TT"RPG spring up?

I It isn't false, demonstrably. I've already said it does not matter. Why do you persist? You can look at that article and see when out of the original definition of CRPGs ARPGs branched off. They didn't spring fully fleshed from nothing.

When did the "C" drop from CRPGs and when did "TT"RPG spring up?

Again this isn't worth it. I never said that ARPG stemmed from JRPG. Show me where I said that? And you're twisting the definition of niche community as all of the ones that play on those particular platform wouldn't be referencing them using the same terms. You even say this above - it's not as...

When did the "C" drop from CRPGs and when did "TT"RPG spring up?

You've got that backwards. A poster from now is insisting that this is always the way it was, when I was clearly able to show that it's not. And that JRPGs were indeed being created under CRPG. Just look back and you'll see it from before you were in the conversation. That is what is being...

When did the "C" drop from CRPGs and when did "TT"RPG spring up?

We can't ignore the past when talking about the etymology of words. That's not being stuck in the past, that's using the past to inform our passage through to the present, which is what this thread is about. The original post didn't say when did it happen after CRPG was repurposed to something...

When did the "C" drop from CRPGs and when did "TT"RPG spring up?

That's convenient as that was not mentioned anywhere in the OP. Originally, computer RPGs were called CRPGs and TTRPGs were called RPGs. They just asked when that changed. Which makes your interjection of JRPG etc a bit minimizing of the topic, IMO.

When did the "C" drop from CRPGs and when did "TT"RPG spring up?

We were. The whole thing was about when the C dropped from CRPG. Which means you have to go back to the beginning. And at that point you said that JRPG were a whole different thing and not CRPGs. So I went back to the beginning.

When did the "C" drop from CRPGs and when did "TT"RPG spring up?

Now, but not then. Take a trip down memory lane: https://www.gamedeveloper.com/audio/1982-1987---the-birth-of-japanese-rpgs-re-told-in-15-games See how they intermixed and moved with the same ideas. I'd say in 1986 was when they started to break off and become their own thing with Dragon...

Theater of the Mind and VTTs: Oh Brave New World...

That's actually the way I play most of the time. I have major events in Foundry, but everything else is not in VTT- just discord and whiteboard (I use miro, but any would probably do).

When did the "C" drop from CRPGs and when did "TT"RPG spring up?

What is a quality of CRPG? I don't think there are any genre specifics to it that wouldn't be in others, are there? When they first came out, all of them were called CRPGs, I believe. I could be wrong, but I remember when that just meant it was an RPG on a computer, even when they had some of...

When did the "C" drop from CRPGs and when did "TT"RPG spring up?

A JRPG is still a computer RPG if played on a computer. the J is just a subset of a computer RPG, in my estimation.

ENnies To Ban Generative AI From 2025

Not sure why you quoted mine, as I'm not one of the all or nothing. I just said I disagree with someone using AI unethically. Ethics are a funny thing - I personally think they are on the person doing the action and only my own ethics are on me. So I won't use AI that I don't know the providence...

Could it be because of the ascnedance of consoles?

ENnies To Ban Generative AI From 2025

It can create the work for you. Every use of AI isn't for this. It's that all or nothing of if you use AI, you're using it unethically that I disagree with.

ENnies To Ban Generative AI From 2025

Yes, they can use AI. As I said, I use it to intelligently link together my corpus from understanding the context of the contents. That's not generating anything but linkages between them and answering questions based on my corpus when I ask for context and delve into it. That's definitely using...

ENnies To Ban Generative AI From 2025

Wish I could upvote this several times. I use it to give artists a better mock up of what I want them to create (something that I was doing, but it sucked, so there was a lot of wasted time), to edit images I already have the rights to (something I was doing manually, but it took more time), to...
