Did they all start as fighters, barbarians, and rogues? The adventure works great as humans only, cuts out the Darkvision problem.

My brother played D&D at Boy Scouts, then he asked and my mom bought him Moldvay Basic and he ran me through Keep on the Borderlands. I was probably 6 or 7. Played Wandalf the Magic User and Gojack the thief. My brother ran two fighter NPCs.

I get that approach. I would be fine with an overhead map as well. Something you can use if the keep goes under siege or combat breaks out inside.

Can crush dice!!!! That is terrifying. You can post that kind of stuff. I had to go consule my dice and tell them it's just a movie. If my dice can't sleep tonight and roll bad that's on you.

3.5 to 5 hours. We had 6 players amd most players made every session but a few missed here and there. XP was earned by monsters killed with a few small bonus xp for other goals achieved. If a charachter died the new charachter started at half the XP of the old charachter which helped slow...

Lost Mines of Phamdelver. It's a solid little sandbox that will get remade and expanded properly at some point. The best adventure from WOTC in the last 30 years. Curse of Strahd is a remake of a classic so doesn't count.
