    What's new with the GSL?

Aha! I was wondering why someone from Wizards would have leaked this to me.

    D&D III movie trailer

Ugh. That so reminds me of why I hate '80s metal. It's got everything: obligatory screaming, midget abuse, blatant stereotyping, uninspired guitar work, and of course the half naked white haired king with the perfect body who wakes up just long enough to throw a cup and then fall back asleep...

Someone says "I'm quitting version 'x' of D&D" you react by:

Where's the "Support or ridicule their decision, depending upon which edition they've chosen to quit" option? Seriously, none of my players have quit a game on me, so I mostly don't care. At least they're playing, which is better than defecting to MMOs.

How Many Have Looked At/Played Mutant Future

OK, second question. If someone (me) were to write some stuff up for it and release it for free (or close to it) under the Mutant Future trademark license, how interested would you be in that material? I'm not committing to anything right now, but this seems like it might be a fun game to work...

    D&D III movie trailer

No, please don't delete. It should be kept as evidence when it finally comes out that the D&D brand manager likes torturing the players.

    D&D III movie trailer

Well, it does have some interesting visuals, and the lead is flamboyantly.... heterosexual. It also bears a bit of resemblance to The Princess Bride. I think Courtney Solomon should get the full version made as the next D&D movie. As others have mentioned, it couldn't possibly be worse than the...

    Game Over for Gamer's Paradise

So nature abhors a vacuum. Personally, I suspect that game stores will always be there. In the middle of this massive recession, there's a new one opening up in Couer d'Alene, ID, and apparently it's doing quite well.

How Many Have Looked At/Played Mutant Future

I'm just curious how many people have checked out this game. If so, do you like it, and would you consider using it? Mutant future is available as a free download at the following URL: Mutant Future and it is also available in dead tree format through Lulu.com.

    The Prestige Fallacy

I'll have to find it again. That column is several years old.

What motivated you to purchase splatbooks for 3e?

I bought one splat for every broad type of chracter class. Once fighter, rogue, wizard, and cleric were covered, I bought other things, like monsters, settings, climate, etc. I didn't go for the second round of splats they released.

    The Prestige Fallacy

It should be noted that Monte Cook posted a blog where he said that he came up with the idea so that DMs could introduce unique groups into their world and they could be mechanically different. He goes on to say that he thought prestige classes ended up being way overdone and he wasn't sure that...

    The Prestige Fallacy

Fluff matters and the intent of it should be taken into consideration whenever deciding how mechanics should function (or not). 3.5 is a simulationist system. Forcing two things that are contradictory to go together defeats the purpose of simulationism.

    The Prestige Fallacy

Forget the mechanics for a second and think about this logically. VoP says you can have no magic weapons. Kensai says that your body parts become magic weapons. Tell me that there isn't a conflict of interest here.

    The Prestige Fallacy

I mostly agree with Psion, although I have to say that the more prestige classes I looked at, the more I became concerned about whether I would allow them in the game. The classic example of broken and wrong is the Kensai + Vow of Poverty because it's an end-run-around the restrictions of the...

Top 100 3PP Books of the Third Edition Era?

Lots of good stuff in there. I'd like to add a few. Lore of the Gods (Bastion) Airships (Bastion) Dawning Star (Blue Devil Games) Babylon 5 (Mongoose)

    On DMing and "writing books"

One of the best campaigns I've ever run was actually very tightly scripted. However, despite the fact that the campaign was planned out with a very definite beginning, middle, and end, each adventure in the series was an adventure, not a railroad. OK, I take that back. There was a three month...

Significance of 3rd Party Publishers: Overrated?

I think its vastly underrated, but that's starting to change. If my predictions for the next couple years pan out, the 3PPs are where the future of the hobby lies.

Which of the following 3PP v.3.5 products should I buy?

Too many good options there to pick just one, so here's my picks: ToH III Ptolus Arms and Armor 3.5 Chaositech Eternal Rome Trojan War Wilderlands of High Fantasy All are among the best of the best.

State of 3rd party products for all d20

RPG Objects is still supporting Darwin's World, in addition to other lines. Reality Deviant Publications is going to continue supporting their True20 lines: Bloodthrone, Reign of Discordia, Interface Zero, and Cthulhu.
