Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

I am. It's a ridiculous turn of phrase regardless of how common the usage.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Sigh. You could make the same argument about the setting as a whole. That's the problem. "I don't want this at my table" is all too often translated to "this shouldn't exist in the game at all." One has nothing to do with the other. Surprise: I don't allow evil PCs in any of my games, not...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

That's where you as the referee step up and say no. What you want at your table shouldn't dictate what exists for the game. That's kind of the core argument about Dark Sun to begin with.

    Best published superhero adventure?

Here's to hoping with the DC Heroes reprint they'll let these be sold as PDFs. The backers will get the PDFs of the books they ordered, so that's something. But yeah, such a shame.

What is a West Marches game?

I think it would be fun. Just take a bit more buy in than normal from the players. I don't like supervillain games. But I get the proactive thing. You could easily do it as superheroes. Same idea. Criminals are committing crimes and the players have to figure out what areas are most hit, which...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Same. Other than RPGs or books, I'd always rather have something someone made themselves. It's so much more personal.

What is a West Marches game?

Here’s that video. I didn’t post it directly. It was in one of my old linked posts.

Yeah. He and his girlfriend do some great stuff.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Yeah. We mostly drink tea rather than coffee but get coffee on occasion. The price doubled since we bought coffee last. We’re moving completely to tea as a result. My wife has 20+ years of seniority in her healthcare job and I’m a self-employed freelancer. This stuff hurts us but it hurts...

    Dragonbane general thread

Uh…no. You’re almost always at 70%+ in 5E. The baseline assumes no optimization. Even the most basic level of optimization, best stat in your class’ main stat, will get you that +1. Aren’t stats randomly rolled? So it’s all up to chance.

What is a West Marches game?

Yeah. A lot of people did. Including Arneson and Gygax. That’s why the old books say the game is for 5-50 players. Ben Milton talks about this in a video I posted. The name is new, the style of play is as old as the game itself.

    Dragonbane general thread

Yeah, that makes sense. Don't focus on your high skills to advance, spread that out. That's on the player. The math for D&D 5E is balanced around the assumption that you'll always have a 65% chance of success when facing an enemy or obstacle that's equal level. So if you have even a +1 over the...

    Best published superhero adventure?

My favorites are mostly reading material or books to mine ideas from rather than to actually run them. Of all the genres I play, I think superheroes is the one least likely to get a module to the table. I really liked the DC Heroes Chessmen 4-parter for the Legion of Super-Heroes. Pawns of...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Weird how your “so utterly unbelievably rare to the point of nonexistence” claim is something we do regularly.

Great topic. Did you not run the fourth module in the set, Flames of Doom?

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

I know there’s a bit of a mechanical difference between them in how the cast, slots, sorcery points, spell lists, etc. I know there’s a membrane-thin fluff difference between them in one is born to power, one trades for power, and one studies for power. But that has effectively zero impact on...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Honestly, there’s not many places to go. The OSR/NSR scenes have all the old-school, lethal D&D game space covered. Daggerheart has the D&D but more narrative space covered. Draw Steel has the D&D but crunchier, tactical combat space covered. The only place to go, really, is up. 5E is commonly...

What Makes A Successful Superhero CAMPAIGN

I've done that a few times. But I typically only restrict the PCs to mutants, rather than the whole setting to mutants. Love me some X-Men, so it can work a treat.

Here’s Mystic Arts on West Marches. He ran a game in that style for two years with 50 players. Well worth checking out.
