D&D General Mike Mearls' blog post about RPG generations

No, I mean in the design of 5E and how the existing playerbase at the time embraced 5E upon release. The designers and fans at the time rejected 4E, which lead to 5E being widely accepted and adopted by the tiny RPG community circa 2014. Critical Role started streaming in March 2015 and Stranger...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Stick with the official stuff for OSE. And Dolmenwood, of course. Beyond that, everything Whizbang says. Especially the Stygian Library.

Yes, that’s what I said. Two solos is 5 each. Using two solos costs an extra 2. Hence 12 points. An “average” fight for 3 PCs is 11 points. I guess if you want to be pedantic it’s a cost of 10 and a budget of 9, but the result is identical. The fight is 1 point over the suggested “average.” But...

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

Right. So that's what...three examples...across how many thousands of hours of play? These are the exceedingly rare exceptions that prove the rule.

Yep. I hated Brussels sprouts until I tried them roasted with a drizzle of olive oil, salt, and pepper. They're not my favorite veg, but they're not as atrocious as they used to be.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

With the fall of Goodman Games it's harder and harder to defend the scene, but there are still quite a few good people there making quite a lot of great stuff.

D&D General Mike Mearls' blog post about RPG generations

It surprising the thread's gone ten pages without anyone mentioning the six cultures of play. This reads almost like a vague restatement of that article. It's also written by one of the designers of 5E, so emphasizing how star-spangled awesome and inevitable the rising star of 5E was is not...

Yeah. The Forge gibberish is all the faux-intellectual stuff. Emphasis on the faux and gibberish.

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

Their shopping episodes are almost exclusively magic item shopping and fashion glow ups. It's incredibly rare that they bother with mundane stuff. The two exceptions I can think of are Beau buying ball bearings and Caleb buying ink and paper. That's two characters across three campaigns. Sure...

The encounter math could give you two solos and be a slightly harder than normal fight. Your budget is 11 and that fight would cost 12. But yeah, the solos not being solos still bugs me.

They’ve never played in a style where their mundane equipment actually matters. If they were 10-year vets of old-school or OSR gaming, sure.

Ozzy has passed. Pour one out for the Prince of Darkness.

Hits kinda hard today. I would have bet Ozzy and Keith Richards would be fighting over the ruins of civilization a thousand years from now.

OSR What's Your Best Drop-In Content For A Sandbox?

The best drop-in content is old-school modules. If your players have already run through a bunch of them, you can restock the maps with whatever you want. If they'd recognize the maps, you can randomly generate some easy enough. Modules and drop-in content. The Stygian Library, Book of...
