What makes a successful superhero game?

Yeah. It's a great system and I love it dearly. But it's far from perfect. I think one of the first things I'd house rule if running it in modern times is flip the power stunt karma cost to a pay out. Reward creativity rather than punish it. To me things like power stunts, or the equivalent in...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Oh. I should have seen it earlier. You're just a partisan for your game of choice. You're not discussing things in good faith, you're just arguing that your preference is better regardless of the facts. Noted and ignored.

What makes a successful superhero game?

Not according to the book. The baseline of ice generation is ranged damage. Advanced MSH, Player's Book, p80. "Ice Generation: The hero in question may draw water from the ambient atmosphere (nearby area) and convert it to ice, which the hero may then use initially as a missile weapon. He may...

What makes a successful superhero game?

No, in Ray's scenario he assumes DD only uses his billy club. If you looked at the stats I posted and knew the basics of the game you'd see that. Does DD no longer fight in hallways or in Hell's Kitchen in New York City? There's walls and buildings everywhere. It's about the safest assumption...

What makes a successful superhero game?

All due respect to Ray, but he's ignoring a lot of MSH and there's a similar but far worse problem in DCH. MSH. Daredevil has F In (40), S Gd (10); Billy Club does Ex (20) damage and he has +2CS to hit with it, or F Mn (75). Advanced MSH, Judge's Book, p27. Thug has F Gd (1) and Ty (6) other...

What makes a successful superhero game?

Eh. It ignores so much of the system to make it not work. Karma, stuns, and slams account for a lot. Assuming DD only ever just hits without additional effect is a big thumb on the scale. Assuming DD never uses his senses to his advantage is another big thumb on the scale. Like so much...

Yeah. Themed film festivals are great, too. A weekend of noir or some such at a movie house.

What are you reading in 2025?

I'm on a superheroes kick but wanting to explore prose novels so I'm reading Soon I Will Be Invincible. It billed as a defining novel in the genre. It's well written and I like the voice of the two main view point characters so far. But...anyone who's ever read more than 5 comic books will be...

What makes a successful superhero game?

Okay. So the original five X-Men before Jean gets telepathy in issue 43. Cool. Not arguing with the numbers listed, but you can see how the team isn't all the same power level, right? It's not just the rank, it's the versatility of the power that matters. This is what point-buy systems try...

What makes a successful superhero game?

That doesn't match my experience with most of those teams at all. The original X-Men, Cyclops, Jean Grey, etc. All different power levels. Unless somehow Beast with his big feet and acrobatics was on par with Jean's telepathy and telekinesis. Which he wasn't. The All-New, All-Different X-Men...

What makes a successful superhero game?

And you think a team-based superhero RPG should not be based on the team-based comic books? Okay. We're never going to agree on anything if that's your starting position.

What makes a successful superhero game?

As a bare minimum for a passable group RPG based on superhero fiction it's not a stretch at all to look at team-based superhero comics as the primary source among many.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Fandoms would be great if it weren't for the corporations controlling the IP, capitalism, and the damn fans.

If you need to remake old stuff at least have a new take with something to say. Otherwise leave it alone.

A few rows of baddies standing on one side of the screen stepping forward and flailing their arms or casting a spell before stepping back. Then repeat on the heroes' side. Love that stuff.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I know. Let's take My Little Pony and remake it into Game of Thrones. Then we can take Game of Thrones and turn it into My Little Pony. Brilliant. So much money to be made. I dunno. Maybe just make MLP and GoT stuff.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Yes, of course. No one's arguing against that. What they're responding negatively to is an existing thing being taken and radically changed to make something completely different for people who don't like the original. Make something original for the people with different tastes.

What makes a successful superhero game?

Exactly. It's not the same Batman from his first appearance to this week's issue. The DC Universe has been rebooted at least 9-10 times. https://screenrant.com/every-dc-comics-reboots-explained-complete-guide/

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Take an existing IP with long-time fans, change it into something nearly opposite to the original, then wonder why long-time fans think the thing they love is being taken away. That's certainly a take.
