New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

It's weird that they seem so hellbent on making the drakenwarden obsolete. From changing the dragon sorcerer into a a dragon summoner, to copy and pasting the drakenwarden onto the fighter subclass. I suspect that we won't ever see the ranger drakenwarden get brought forward into 5.5e.

New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

The winter ranger is insanely cool. Definitely up there with my favorite 5e classes of all time. It absolutely oozes theme. I hope in the future they keep down this route for ranger subclasses, using different environments as a base. We have gloomstalker as an underdark ranger, but a volcano...

D&D 5E (2014) Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

Watch them get retconned into being either humans or elves. Edit: Seems that they've actually been turned into their own species. I wonder if Jhor'guntaal will get the same treatment, at least in the lore.

The Gith Are Now Aberrations in Dungeons & Dragons

It feels weird that they're changing all these creature types, while not changing aasimar and tieflings to celestials and fiends. Then again, I suspect they might keep all player species as humanoids, while giving the exact same NPC species other creature types.

D&D 5E (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

Or, y'know, acknowledge that some groups have more than 4 players in their party... If you're running a 7 player game, then a boss monster of matching CR to their level is going to get absolutely stomped.

Mainstream News Discovers D&D's Species Terminology Change

I feel a lot of the issue with species ASI's isn't the with there being a problem with the concept itself, but rather 5e's bounded accuracy and minimum expectations of starting primary stats. It essentially resulted in your character not being functional if you chose the 'wrong' species for the...

Mainstream News Discovers D&D's Species Terminology Change

Switching to species absolutely makes sense, but I feel it's like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. It's quite clear that a huge proportion of the community (and even many official WotC staff themselves) views them like irl human ethnicities rather than unique species, and...

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

To me, it's not that thunder gauntlets or the flail are great or not. They are. But if I want an armourer with wrist blades rather than thunder gauntlets, I just can't, unless I give up half my subclass abilities. As for switching armour model on the fly, I'm happy it can't do that. If I'm...

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

Which doesn't let you pick your own weapon. It's thunder gauntlets or flail.

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

Wish there was an alternative battlesmith option, where you didn't have to lug Preston the robodog around with you. Not everyone wants their gish to be a pet class.

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

It would be really nice if Artificer got a selection of unique spells. Not having them is a large part of the reason for the class feeling tacked on.

D&D General [Humor] Things You Hate About 7E

We've all agreed to call it 7e right? I refuse to call it DnD Edition-X.

    D&D General Let's list/complain about things we don't like

Lack of classes is the thing I dislike the most. Pathfinder 2e has all sorts of fun things like the Magus, Kineticist, and more. While in DnD, you have subclasses which don't provide nearly the variety of play. Battlemaster and purple dragon knight don't come close to warlord for a support...

D&D General Drow as in Cow or Drow as in Snow: Where did the Dark Elves Come From?

As my introduction to the DnD community was via Warhammer Fantasy, I spent years thinking that the drow were extremely pale skinned Dark Elves, just like their warhammer depiction. Needless to say I was very confused when people started calling them problematic.

D&D General “‘Scantily Clad and Well Proportioned’: Sexism and Gender Stereotyping in the Gaming Worlds of TSR and Dungeons & Dragons.”

Another one which bugs me is making reptile sapients always have wide hips and boobs. Just to make them 'hot'.

D&D General “‘Scantily Clad and Well Proportioned’: Sexism and Gender Stereotyping in the Gaming Worlds of TSR and Dungeons & Dragons.”

I swear it's normally the opposite. Tons of media has the males of a species as monstrous looking, while the females are just recoloured humans. WoW is particularly bad for this.

D&D General “‘Scantily Clad and Well Proportioned’: Sexism and Gender Stereotyping in the Gaming Worlds of TSR and Dungeons & Dragons.”

I like the idea that dwarves will season their food with things which are poisonous to other species. Due to their innate resistance.

D&D General “‘Scantily Clad and Well Proportioned’: Sexism and Gender Stereotyping in the Gaming Worlds of TSR and Dungeons & Dragons.”

My favorite depiction of sapient species with vastly different ways of thinking and interacting with the world is a piece of work called Serina. It has interesting twists like some sapients only being able to learn for their first year of life, or not being able to exist with others of their...
