    Distrusting NPC Issues

Our group(s) of players is generally of the trusting type, although they judge every situation case by case. We try to apply common sense to each encounter to see if we can trust or not. To the OP: - Do your NPCs act realistically? (To all: please don't argue the use of this word. Thank you :)...

We have 99 Heroes of Neverwinter beta keys to give away

I long for the play I wish for Spring Oh Neverwinter!

    Is DnD well-balanced?

Dungeonneering skill check: 25. "I know this creature: it's the regenerative kind. Use fire to kill it."

M-16 fully automatic crossbow with laser targetting. Can't seem to find it in DDI, must be weapon proficiency.

    Capping a game at 11th-level

Myself, I prefer the heroic play to the high-level play (for the little I did of the latter). I haven't actually "capped" my campaigns to any given level. What I do is try to convey a sense to the PCs of what power level the others in their environment have, compared to theirs. They know there...

    Maps/Tiles or Dry/Wet Erase?

Color poster maps (I have about 20, each two-sided) and wet-erase mat for me.

    Good miniatures set?

Another ping for Auggies, I've buyed there and was satisfied. Good prices (I've looked around.) http://www.auggiesgamesonline.com/DD_c_15.html If you're looking for the bulk, cheap order, you can hand-pick them one by one and many cost less than a dollar each. Since it's your birthday, you...

    looking for a miniature

The Barbarian Mercenary from WotC's minis line doesn't have a plate mail but it has a wolf pelt and a two-handed sword (and it's cheap). See Ebay for example. http://shop.ebay.ca/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=barbarian+mercenary&_sacat=See-All-Categories

    Zero to Hero!

Man talking about minions on online D&D forums is like putting your hands in a basket full of crabs :) Alright, forget about the minions and my view on them. Ignore those passages and take the rest of the message away in my posts. Peace, Sky p.s.: and just to be clear, on the matter of power...

Multiclassing Essentials Characters with PHB1 & 2 MC Feats

I play a tactical warlord MC-ed as a wizard and I like it. If you're looking for optimization, don't do it. If you're looking for fun options, MC is nice. My warlord can cast scorching burst, which is good to take out minions. I like the arcana skill bonus too, like I like any knowledge skill :)

    Zero to Hero!

Like you say: the DM can make the game as deadly as he wants. I think the question is: assuming the DM is not out to kill the PCs, he's just playing it out with moderately easy encounters, how likely is it that the PCs will die nonetheless? Again, in 1E-3E, a single basic-attack sword, hand...

    Zero to Hero!

Interesting topic here, and I like what many posters have said up to now (and agree with some of it). One thing I wish to mention on hero vs zero, which is somewhat related to the present topic: In 4E, the game system presents a power framework for opponents that is relative to the PCs, and in...

    Zero to Hero!

I don't think I agree with this. The question is not whether the DM can choose powerful, PC-killing monsters like Irontooth in 4E (who, by the way, is nothing but your typical level 1 goblin); it's whether typical fights allow a high-survivability rate for PCs in 4E vs previous editions, if the...

New Legends and Lore: The Rules

I highly recommend reading it. 4E DMG 2 gives fantastic RP ideas. It's the best DMG I've read, I believe.

New Legends and Lore: The Rules

Balesir: sure, rules are desirable. Like I said, some balance needs to be struck. I have the impression that 4E went too far into the rules realm, where it becomes tedious to play with players that have not at least 20 sessions behind their belt because the rules system is burdensome. Not...

New Legends and Lore: The Rules

My perspective on the question of DM power vs. rule structure comes down to one word: balance. It's clear that DMs choose a lot of things to base the story on, from the environment to the encounter design. Once the challenge is set, it's not a far stretch to allow for some on-the-scene DM fiat...

    I'm sick of...

I haven't read through this entire thread, but on the OP's topic: I agree on the lack of info from WotC and can't really understand that non-transparent approach. However, to be fair, there have been some changes recently in the WotC information dissemination. Legends and Lore and Rules of...

    "He's beyond my healing ability..."

I'm not saying that rolling for things that occur in-play is bizarre; I'm saying that arbitray decisions rule the game world and also permeate the in-play game sessions (such as encounter design), but it is bizarre that they should be frowned upon concerning something as trivial (relatively to...

    "He's beyond my healing ability..."

I think if you wish to suppose that the PCs can regenerate through bedrest in your game, it's fine. I however doubt that the majority of players think this way. Personally, I feel the game suggests humans are ordinary human beings that gain powers that are specifically described or implied in...
