Besides D&D, what are you playing?

Only currently running a 5e game in the Midgard setting on FG. But, I reeeally want to run a Spectaculars! game. The problem is it really feels like something is lost not running it face-to-face. I hear there's a Tabletop Simulator module for the game. I might have to look into that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rename the Monster Manual

The Book of Things With Feelings? While we're at it, we could rename D&D to Undertale.

D&D 5E (2014) WotC Confirms Horror-themed Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden

Haven't bought a WotC book since the Tome of Foes, but this interests me...

Humble Bundle - Campaign Cartographer Deal - Thoughts?

Do you have CAD experience? If not, expect a very heavy learning curve. I've been using CC since it was CC2 in the early 00's, but it took a long time to become proficient. These days, personally, I use Wonderdraft/Dungeondraft. Haven't used CC3 for years, and would likely need to relearn it...

D&D General Which edition of D&D did you grow up with?

I started with B/X, but I don't think I'm grown up yet. So, all of the above?

    Mad at Paizo?

The Knights of Everflame? Yeah, I agree, that's difficult to watch, they're a bit over the top, imo.

    Mad at Paizo?

Yeah, they're all friends from the same industry. It just happens to be an industry that makes for entertaining game play (millage may vary on how entertaining one finds it, of course, like all forms of entertainment) .

D&D General Playing as the monsters

Our current game, the PCs are goblins, protecting their tribe from external threats. Before we started, I had to remind a couple of the players that it isn't really an "evil" campaign. The nearby human colony is a part of a fascist oligarchy and is definitely a threat, a rampaging gnoll band...

Pathfinder 2E Leshies Previewed From Lost Omens Character Guide

To be fair, a lot of D&D monsters based on RL lore are quite a bit off the mark.

Pathfinder 2E Are you moving from 5E to PF2?

Huh, most of the cons in that last one sound like pros to me... :)

Maybe the seedpods look like tiny golden poops.

    Periapt of Health

Think of it this way: If the item made you immune to magical damage, and your PC buddy just got hit by a mundane sword and a Fireball, would giving him the item heal his Fireball damage?

    D&D 5E (2014) Players: Why Do You Want to Roll a d20?

I prefer to just say skill check should have consequence, one way or the other, rather than associate any negative terms with it. A rogue skilled in lock picking, with the right tools, that has all day to pick a lock, will do so, no roll required (assuming it is pickable in the first place, of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Players: Why Do You Want to Roll a d20?

I see we agree here. I may have misread your post I originally quoted. I just read it as, "if the player can't roll, then he has to try and read the GM's mind," which I don't agree with. But if that's not the case, my bad, carry on.

    D&D 5E (2014) Players: Why Do You Want to Roll a d20?

I'm not sure how my post implies GM/player sparring or player competence, just competence of the PC trained in the skill. If the NPC is a schmuck and the PC is good at spotting cues, I'm going to describe those cues when they try to pull a fast one. If the PC isn't, they don't get those cues...

    D&D 5E (2014) Players: Why Do You Want to Roll a d20?

It's not about ignoring your trained skills, it's about assuming a level of competence from those that are trained in the skills.

Pathfinder 2E Complexity vs. Depth -- A Look Inside Pathfinder 2nd Edition

Well, it's not the most random sample available, but the char-op threads in the general board for PF2 on Paizo are quickly beginning to outnumber the more interesting ones. And that's the general board, I'm not even bothering looking at the advice board....

Nat 20 rule. Is it immersion breaking?

I'd be okay with letting players come up with plans to deal with something that isn't "hittable" with a normal attack. It'd make for an interesting encounter. Going against design? Maybe I don't really see it being much of a real problem though. PF2, much like it's predecessors, isn't a flat...

Pathfinder 2E Are you moving from 5E to PF2?

It looks interesting. I'm going to talk to the players about giving it a try when our current 5e game ends. I want to try running it, which is more than I can say for the previous version.

    Age of Worms experience

Very lethal, I found. It was my last 3e campaign, and while the final adventure expects the original PCs to be present, none were present, and some players were on a 3rd PC by the end. My players weren't big on resurrection back then, and I pulled no punches as a DM. Unfortunately, that was...
