D&D 4E Do you really want Greyhawk and Dragonlance for 4e

Curses! Foiled Again! [Shakes fist ruefully at the heavens] Completely forgot about that little, but vey important detail.

D&D 4E Do you really want Greyhawk and Dragonlance for 4e

With Dragonlance, you'd get: 3 new races (or at least racial variants): Kender (Halfling), Draconian (Dragnoborn), and Irda (Deva?) Additional support for Minotaurs A setting without Drow, Tieflings, or Half-Orcs. A great opportunity for new setting-specific character themes (e.g., Knights of...

Building a "Pugilist" (Monk) with the Slayer

Or I could use the Scout as a basis instead of the Slayer. Don't know why that just now occurred to me. The Scout is more monk-like with its aspects (think kung-fu styles named for animals) and its dual striking. Just have to allow his Two-Weapon style to apply to spiked gauntlets or unarmed...

Building a "Pugilist" (Monk) with the Slayer

I suppose to account for not having a great weapon, I could allow his attacks to do 2d6, each die representing one fist.

Building a "Pugilist" (Monk) with the Slayer

Thanks for the suggestions on powers and feats. It's for Encounters so he won't get to 7th level. If for some reason we were to continue on past that, I'd offer some alternatives for other features that would get nerfed.

    D&D Diversifying and Rethinking

Another thought on diversifying a brand as opposed to focusing only on the original product. Brand diversification is part of what brought Marvel Comics out of bankruptcy and up to a point they were so valuable that Disney snatched it up at the first opportunity. Marvel decided it wasn't...

    D&D Diversifying and Rethinking

I think they're finally getting the concept of cross-marketing different products under a uniform brand. Role-players - if you like D&D 4e, you might enjoy some of our board games and war games. War gamers - if you like Conquest of Nerath, be sure to check our forthcoming skirmmish game with...

Building a "Pugilist" (Monk) with the Slayer

I probably should have included his melee basic math so it was more clear. Melee Basic Attack (Spiked Gauntlet) Dexterity vs. AC Attack bonus +7 (Dex +4, Weapon Talent +1, Proficiency +2) Damage 1d6 +7 (Dex +2, Heroic Slayer +4, Two-Wpn Fighting +1)

Advice on Whether or Not to Join Encounters

$10 is outrageous! If you consider that's $140 to participate in each session, you can buy yourself all the books needed to run a campaign at home for cheaper. The competition between tables is definately antithetical to the spirit of Encounters. That's what Lair Assault is supposed to be for...

Building a "Pugilist" (Monk) with the Slayer

I had a new player join Encounters last night. He has only played 3.5 in the past and wanted to play a monk. He had a great character concept for a non-cleric using the Oghma's Faithful theme - a street urchin from Waterdeep taken in by Oghma's temple. Trying not to deviate too far out of the...

Advice on Whether or Not to Join Encounters

That's an interesting question, but how would you get additional information to determine if there are "hot beds" of particularly good or bad DMing. I think it would be cool if Wizards did some "exit polliing" of Encounters participants, rating the store environment and the DM. Wizards can...

I Have [The] Neverwinter Campaign Setting

I stand corrected on the racial restrictions, and happily so. One other thing I noted - on the list of warpriest domains for FR deities, it says that Tempus' priests should select the "Conquest" domain. Never heard of that domain. Is it a typo or did I miss a Dragon article?

    D&D Game Day this weekend!

I'm in the same boat. Small town - one game shop running organized play and only two DMs that can rarely be present at the same time. Makes it hard when 7 or 8 players show up. But we make it work. Still, I feel your pain.

I Have [The] Neverwinter Campaign Setting

D'oh! Didn't even think about how that impacts the utility of the character builder. Now I'm a bit more annoyed.

I Have [The] Neverwinter Campaign Setting

I found the NCS to be a great book for starting a campaign. I like that it's more focused than the FRCS but still very much sandbox. My only complaints were the lack of themes suited to dragonborn and the restriction of the Bladesinger to the elven races. I know that harkens back to it's...

    Neverwinter & Character Builder

Anyone know when the Neverwinter Campaign options will hit the Character Builder? I have players already itching to make their characters.

    Unbalanced Encounters

Do you anticipate the player will react negatively to having his defenses penetrated by at least one of the monsters in an encounter? I know if I played a fighter who never got hit, I would find it kind of boring. I kind of expect minions to bounce off me most of the time, but for brutes to...

That must be one hell of a patch. I gave up on the game before I ever left the village.

    Getting Started

Heroes of the Fallen Lands is your "basic" book. It details the 5 core classes - fighters (2 kinds), clerics, wizards, and theives, and your "classic" fantasy races - dwarves, halflings, humans, and elves (2 kinds). So you can use it to make any class-race combination. It also includes...
