This is what we do. Little XP bonuses, nothing gamebreaking, 10 - 25 xp/per as a bonus.

I have had characters surprised by creatures (a beholder is one that comes to mind), that hit the character with an attack that required a save vs. die roll that I failed before I ever got a chance to do anything.

But I would counter with: does my character know the creature, and if not, why would I be afraid of a save or die effect I do not know about? Player vs. Character knowledge... OR Surprise round, and I get hit with a save or die effect, and die. OR I've fought the creature before, and my...

I would agree, except for the fact that I had to go back to work yesterday, and the month I thought I would have to read DFRPG before DSCS came out didn't happen, so I had to choose. :eek: Yeah, yeah, I know, poor me, right... And considering I'm going to TRY to run a DFRPG game AND planning...

I have to say, that while I do like the Realms, it is the "weakest" of the 3 campaign settings. Eberron CS is great, and the Dark Sun CS is, IMO, a little above the ECS (but, I may be biased since I like DS a little more than Eberron). Perhaps they will use what they have learned to make some...
