    Metaplots

I can live with both versions, though a well written metaplot, which doesn't turn the whole world upside down is my optimum solution. The FR metaplot, example given, is way too much for my taste. Having the gods kill each other? No, please not. Changing the whole landscape nearly beyond...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 03/24/2014

Yes, but the ability to learn from good and better examples is good! :) This talk about equipment packages brings me to another point: will the prices for equipment be more simulation like or more effect based? In other words, how expensive will a plate mail be?

D&D 5E (2014) GAMA Trade Show and Game Developer Conference start Monday - announcement Tomorrow?

Well, my experiences were quite the other way round. :) To-3e conversions were quite easy as long as I could find a replacement monster in 3e. When a special monster was used in the old material for which no 3e version existed and thus had to be built from scratch... I guess we all know this...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&DNext WotC Adventures

Whether boxed text or no, the organisation of the stuff is what makes or breaks the description. When using boxed texts, please use simple formatting (boldface) to stress what's important. When not using boxed texts, please organise the text to allow quick access to information. Use sections...

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 3/17 /14

As long as the designers manage to keep mechanical and fluff-stuff separate, both conceptually and layout-wise, there's not much to complain about it. But how will they handle two-way connection? Let's say the Graz'zt entry mentions Lamias and Jackalweres and vice versa. But the new dominic...

what isn't an rpg that should be?

Development of the original Fallout actually started as a licensed GURPS CRPG. I - playing GURPS at that time - was tremendously disappointed when Interplay and Steve Jacksn Games parted ways.

    Next or BX?

Are you or your kids missing something from the game as it is? Do you (they) want or need additional rules? In this case Next is an option as many other games around. What kinds of adventures are you playing? The old BX type with lots of locations and monsters but without pre-defined plot or...

D&D 5E (2014) Where Should The Magic Items Go?

By definition, yes. I still doubt that a sizable amount of gamers would consider the game complete without magic items, though.

    Zork you very much!

Ah, thank you! I tried "load" and "open" (duh! "open" in a text adventure...:o), but didn't think of "restore".

    Zork you very much!

Trying Zork 1 in a DOSBox environment here. I have some problems saving the game. Does anyone have an idea how to adress a specific path? And how can I load a game?

D&D 5E (2014) Where Should The Magic Items Go?

The numbers of this poll are a bit astonishing. In the discussions about the assumed price for the PHB, people expressed in interest to make D&DN playable with PHB and Monster Manual only, thus making the DMG optional. Yet here the majority wishes magic items to be in the DMG. Curious...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you ready for a new edition of D&D?

Maybe. First, there's no pressure. I'm involved in 2.5 4e games which will proceed for - at least - 1-2 years. All of these games are fresh enough not to get cancelled because of some new edition. Conversions are a no-go, too. Second, 5e couldn't answer the question "why 5e instead of an older...

Can you have out of body experiences?

Sort of. At several points I suffered through some severe hypoglycemia and felt like I was watching the scene when others tried to help me. I felt like a neutral observer musing about the chances of the helpers to, well, help me. But I don't recall whether I actually saw myself from the...

D&D 5E (2014) What Would You Give Up For A Cheaper PHB?

I'm actually fine with the price rumoured tag, but if forced to reduce the costs I vote for: High Level Stuff: Personally, I probably won't use it anyway. Leaving it out wouldn't reduce the usablity of the book for the first several months, the higher levels could possibly enjoy some more...

Can you do any gymnastic/acrobatic stuff?

Nope. When I was in a better shape with a strict training regimen I wasn't interested in fancy looking stuff with the exception of some ways to throw the ball which bordered on the artistic. Oh, and eight years ago our daughter challenged me to do cartwheels, which I managed after some ten...

    Scary Moments

I only live through one really dangerous moment. I was maybe six years old and riding my bike through town, when the driver of a car on a parking lane open the door. This sent me prone beneath a trailer truck which started at that very moment as the traffic light turned green. I remember...

Cost of D&D Editions, then and now

No, but telling the "Here's the starter set for you - and it's only 20$" might.

D&D 5E (2014) Where Should The Magic Items Go?

Sure there's merit. I don't know this Hackmaster book, but if D&D goes with something like the Treasure Type approach from AD&D, putting the lists in the same book with the monsters makes perfect sense. One could even easily define special treasures for specific monster types.

D&D 5E (2014) Where Should The Magic Items Go?

Everything not needed to "build" a PC should be removed from the PHB. The DMG could be a good place, but only if it still is needed for running the game. If it's an optional resource, I'd vote for modules, MM, and some online resource for magical items. One fringe case is stuff like potions and...

    Second baby cured of AIDS

Well, aggressive drug treatment of a new-born child is still a high price for this ... freedom.
