Player want to be an animal

Yeah I was thinking about the similar solution. He isn't shy, he is the very opposite. It's just that it's kind of odd request after 12 years of gaming together.

Player want to be an animal

One of my players keeps bugging me to allow him to play an animal. I allowed it once for a one-session-adventure to play some kind of a war hound and he loved it. We made him some special bite attacks and he would assist the party mostly as a distraction for the guards. I remember that they...

Do your campaigns have a theme?

I think they are. For one, religion in my campaign setting is based on faith. Gods never showed themselves and I never said to my players that they do or do not exists. This is probably because I'm conflicted on the matter myself. A lot of my villains are simply misguided characters whose desire...

how many classes is too many?

I don't think it's much of an issue when you are able to create a powerful combo in a classless system. I find it much worse when one class is significantly more powerful or weaker than other classes in a class based system.

GMs: How do you create a feeling of horror (in an heroic fantasy game)?

I once scared my player really good. They showed me the goosebumps! Here is how it went: They were staying at the inn in some remote village. They just finished a quest and they weren't expecting anything to happen. I told them that some noise wakes them up, coming from below. Simple...

How will the Doom Kickstarter fraud scandal affect future Kickstarters?

So very true. I'm one of them as well, with a project about to finish unfunded. Luckily I learned a lot from it and met some great people. But if we were successful, I don't think we would have problems with delivering what we promised. We already have a good chunk of work finished and I also...

How will the Doom Kickstarter fraud scandal affect future Kickstarters?

Well that's poor management, isn't it?

How will the Doom Kickstarter fraud scandal affect future Kickstarters?

I understand that, but the project with bigger budget is still more likely to succeed than fail.

How will the Doom Kickstarter fraud scandal affect future Kickstarters?

I think one of the main issues in this case is that the project was 300% over the needed budget and yet nothing will be produced. When a project reaches only a 100% it should be expected that they still might fail, but 300%? That for me spells immediate project success and more.

How will the Doom Kickstarter fraud scandal affect future Kickstarters?

I guess then some kind of contingency plan should be in order. Let's say you need 20.000$ to print and ship and somewhere along the way you fall short. If your digital book pledge costs 20$ and your pledge with a printed book and shipping costs 50$ and you waste 10.000$ you can still give...

how many classes is too many?

Or if the system is well made it could use it as an advantage. I never liked in D&D how a fighter or a wizard can easily min-max. If the system favors balancing skills, stats and abilities instead of boosting a small number, there wouldn't be min-maxing behavior. Those who do min-max would have...

How will the Doom Kickstarter fraud scandal affect future Kickstarters?

Do you mean the Amanda Palmer's album? I don't know, I'm not a fan of her music. My friend, who is a fan told me about her kickstarter and even there were some unpleasant occurrences, but I don't know much about it.

How will the Doom Kickstarter fraud scandal affect future Kickstarters?

I also think kickstarter has changed greatly. My main concern is that a lot of people who are famous, have money and reputation (both in rpg community and outside) are still turning to kickstarter as a safe shot. Turning it into a pre-order for their future product. Kickstarter doesn't really...

how many classes is too many?

MichaelSomething, I would prefer the fight with options opposed to barbarian without options. But I do prefer classless RPGs like GM_Chris.

how many classes is too many?

As little as possible for me. I want a class to give me a freedom to make the character I want. I always hated the fact that if I want to play a barbarian in 3.5E who tracks, I have to spend a valuable resource (a feat every 3 levels) or multiclass into a ranger. More annoying yet, I get things...

16 Questions about the new Flint & Steel RPG

One question I have about F&S: Does it have passive defense (such as D&D's AC) or active defense (such as GURPS in which you can parry, dodge, or block)? Johnny3D3D We went with passive defense. Your defense is gained from your character's agility, armor coverage (the type of armor give SOAK...

    Game Design 118: Comprehensiveness

There should be a fine balance between "what a character is able to do via the rules and what the character is actually doing in the campaign", like ExploderWizard said. I think that rules that are flexible and adaptable to situations help here the most. So that there isn't a long list of...

    Flint&Steel RPG

The biggest simplification comes with magic. Add that to a deadlier combat and new special abilities and you get a really fast action. Tracking skills is easier as well. Another thing that greatly benefits gaming sessions is fast character upgrading. Leveling used to take a lot of time for some...
