    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Cleric"

I imagine that Divine Intervention is largely going to be an encounter breaking vehicle for casting a few spells with a single action that normally are balanced by long casting times such as Hallow. It doesn't sound like that was changed since the playtest which is surprising. I imagine certain...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Monk"

Be You don't like it because it breaks the aesthetic symmetry of the class or because it is unbalanced?

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook reveal: "New Monk"

I am pretty sure both Kensei and Samurai are going to get new names when they come up for revision and rerelease. WOTC are in a weird place with cultural sensitivity issues with the Monk class. They seem to have less pushback when they don't use words/translations from other non-western cultures...

    D&D 5E (2024) Ranger 2024 is a bigger joke than Ranger 2014:

I don't think a Drunken Master subclass would make it past an accessibility oriented sensitivity reader in 2024. It stumbles into a few problematic issues. It might come back at some point with a new theme. On the other hand, I am not sure that "oriented" would make it mast a sensitivity...

    Spoilers Doctor Who 2024 (spoilers)

Yeah, they were clearly looking to hook a different demographic in the first couple of episodes, but it settled down nicely after that. Space Babies would have been a fun throwaway Episode 9 of 13 fifteen years ago, but I wouldn't have led with it personally. I know the BBC's remit to RTD is to...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Shape of "New Druid"

I strongly supported the idea of templates, but voted the templates offered in the UA into oblivion because they were so poorly constructed. I am not going to try to guess WOTC's intentions. I can only vote on what they show me.... not what I wish they had showed me.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: "New Rogue"

I've never been able to say "Soulknife" with a straight face. It sounds like the lead in a '70s Blaxploitation flick of the same name.

DC20 Kickstarter launch on June 4th

It took me a while to piece together why he presents the way he does and then I watched a few YouTube fitness coach videos to look at some pointers on weight training techniques and most of them have that same style. He is just riffing on the "coach" angle which is probably how he managed to...

    Grade the Silhouette System

There might be something else going on here. I had heard of some of the games, but I hadn't heard of the generalized system name and it doesn't seem to be something that the publisher really promoted much even though it looks like they put out a core book at some point. In fact this very thread...

    Spoilers Doctor Who 2024 (spoilers)

I was quite pleased with Dot and Bubble. This is the story I had been dreading all season, but they ended up doing something more interesting with it than I expected. To spend that much time with a character that (intentionally) annoying and it still being an enjoyable episode is a bit of a feat.

    Spoilers Doctor Who 2024 (spoilers)

It is not a particularly well loved story, but I think it is pretty underrated with some surprisingly good effects and visual look throughout as well as being a rare present day Hartnell story. I think his era could have used a few more of those, but it is hard to reconcile that with his...

    Spoilers Doctor Who 2024 (spoilers)

"Planet of the Giants" (1964) in the Hartnell era was also three parts. It was originally shot as four parts, but parts 3 and 4 were edited together into single Part 3 because the production staff thought it wasn't pacey enough (even for the Hartnell era). That story in the last part actually...

    Spoilers Doctor Who 2024 (spoilers)

I loved 73 Yards. It went pretty deep into metaphorical storytelling that I know some bits of the fandom will hate, but I adore and it worked wonderfully. Next week looks... oh dear. I will try to keep an open mind.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

If the D&D fandom can have a total rage-quitting meltdown over the absence of the Gnome in the initial core 4e rules, I can only imagine how they would respond to axing the ranger. It is necessary because the game exists to serve the fanbase and the players demand it to be a core class.

D&D 5E (2024) How Should the Bastion rules be updated from that UA?

I guess that is what I am saying. I want a much more robust version of what the 2014 based on GP as currency and real time rather than having abstracted Bastion points and Bastion turns. I don't normally tend toward Simulation in RPGs, but this is one area that I think it scratches the itch.

D&D 5E (2024) How Should the Bastion rules be updated from that UA?

I just want a huge list of fixed GP costs for various buildings and facilities as well as monthly (or weekly) upkeep costs for staff and supplies. The whole point system and minigame that they proposed seemed massively overdesigned, yet not really worth the effort into implementing. I hope...

    D&D 5E (2024) More D&D 2024 Tidbits: Aasimar, Goliaths, Town-Eating Gelatinous Cubes

I think the Goliath is occupying that space. It seems like early on that they decided they wanted 12 classes and 4 subclasses, 12 species and 16 backgrounds with a lot of built-in symmetry of opposite choices. They floated the Aardling as possible more colorful alternative knowing that they...

D&D 5E (2024) Aasimar, Crafting Rules, and more in Gameinformer Magazine feature

I think the presence of the prosthetic hand is more of a representation issue and is more likely to end up on a character class/subclass where its presence isn't directly related to the theme of the class/subclass.

    D&D 5E (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Cover Reveal

It kind of looks exactly like I thought it would. I am sure the target audience of 12 year olds will process the art choices on this as familiar and alluring. However, the art style is so 2024 that it may date very quickly. On the other hand, there is no reason that they can't just add some...
