MM homebrew is trash. This is way worse than core and if you add fighting styles and feats it just is bad design. Maybe he should try the pathfinder playtest if he wants a over designed game.

Kingdom of alumar has a much better combat system than witcher 3. Witcher is just so deep in every other area. Honestly dragon age has a better combat system than witcher. I dont really think diablo style games are comparable. Alot less story and more focused on gear grinding.

CD project also gets money from its goverment. And as good of a game witcher3 was, the actual combat was not that good. I know heresy but true.

The monk is fine. The elemental is a little goofed, the the core of the monk class is pretty solid. They are not ment to go all out every single round.

The question is do you want to change your style to such a pc. I learned the hard way back in 2nd ed. Darksun that large pcs dont work well. At the end of 3rd edition I did a planescape campaign where one of my players ran a ogremage, but I was ready for it this time.

Take away the reach bonus but give it the ability to grapple as a size larger.

while I do agree with you that 3rd is where powergaming hit its stride, you cant really call 3rd edition players new or young anymore for the most part. They are more of gronards in some ways than adnd players.

Honestly, my only complaint about ravnica is that its alot like planescape, atleast on the surface. But Im willing to give it a look when it is released. Just remember, you dont have to use it the way they wrote it. Most of their settings are in need of personal touches.

This is an easy answer. Stop using alignment. Let the PCs backstory and strengths and flaws guide your players. Then give xp bonuses or gifts like special skills or items to the players who are true to their PCs. And make sure your troublemakers see this.

Magic sales have dipped slightly and dnd sales have risen. Just my guess but they are trying to peanutbutter and chocolate the two brands. Will it work? Who knows, dnd nerds can be stubborn sometimes about settings.
