    Cloak of Mage Armor

That's even better, since it actually has a duration.

    Can awakened animals speak?

Yeah, that sums up what people have been saying pretty well. Thanks. ;) Now I just have to see if my group will let me play an awakened riding dog. (Dogs/wolves aren't exactly 'optimal' awakened animals, but there's a lot of coolness there; scent + track, racial bonus to tracking with scent...

    Cloak of Mage Armor

Man. I'd love to be in Slaved's game. I'd make a cloak of Constant Healing (CLW once per round, continuous) for 8000 gp! Effective Fast Healing 5! WOO!

Why is Polar Ray an 8th level spell?

DFB is better because it does half as much damage to many targets? Well, that's great. If you have more than two targets. And they are close together. And you can arrange not to hit your allies. And the targets don't have evasion. The fact that a given spell is more useful in a specific...

    Can awakened animals speak?

I realize it says 'can speak one language' etc., but I'm just not sure whether that's a wording thing. After all, the ability to know a language is 'speak language.' I suppose in the absence of anything specific saying otherwise, we can only go off of the language in the SRD. I'd feel better...

    Can awakened animals speak?

An awakened animal gains languages from the list the druid knows, but it's not 100% clear (to me) whether the animal (as a Magical Beast) gains any ability to actually talk. I'm inclined to say 'no,' because: Lycanthrope in animal form can't speak Druid in animal form can't speak Anyone have...

Will CON become a dump stat?

You know, a lot of people bag on players or DMs for the '5 minute workday' thing, but I don't think that's particularly fair. When you hit an encounter, you have no idea how tough it will be; if you don't give it your all, and someone is seriously injured because you're plinking away with magic...

    D&D 4E 4E is like WoW (NOT!)

AverageCitizen: While I've loved a lot of MMOs, it's precisely those continuity gaps that really encouraged me to shift back to RPing online. That, and bears with plate armor stuck up their urethras. Though a few games buck the trends: Eve Online, for example, relies on PvP to produce a...

Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

In my games, I was considering a Fate mechanic that meant if it wasn't the right circumstances, you couldn't die! Mind you, that mechanic doesn't save you from being horribly maimed... I never implemented it, but if I did, I'd probably have permanent stat damage and injuries as a result of...

    D&D 4E 4E is like WoW (NOT!)

Der, 4e is TOTALLY turning into WoW! Consider these elements of WoW that 4e is RIPPING OFF: WoW has paladins, druids, priests (though 4e has renamed them clerics, but SAME THING), mages (wizards, ditto), rogues, and warlocks! WoW has dwarves, elves, gnomes, and humans, JUST LIKE 4E...

    D&D 4E Anyone know a Pro-4e site?

Psion: Well, there's still a few rabid pro/anti/charm/up 4e folks pissing about, but it's a lot better. Maybe not better enough, I dunno. ;) All I can say is it was refreshing having people kibbitz about a few ideas on what to do with 4e without BLAAARGH.

    D&D 4E Anyone know a Pro-4e site?

... Are you joking, Psion? Didn't you HEAR? Stormbringer got his ass kicked off the rpg.net d20 forum. He's not totally banned... but he can't post on d20. Ever. Halle:):):):)inglujah.

Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

That is a cheap argument. Ultimately, suspension of disbelief is a personal thing. I mean, if I wrote that if you fumble with a sword you heal your opponent rather than hurt them, you don't think people would be annoyed? Some people enjoy a game more when they feel it 'makes sense' in various...

Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

FS: Peasants have fought quite specifically for the lives and security of their children and themselves. I don't know how much more motivated you can get than that. They still got slaughtered.

    D&D 4E 10 Things I Like in 4e

    1) General mechanic of X + 1/2 level. Makes altering things a snap, makes balance a lot easier- I love it. 2) Healing surges. 3) Magic items being easily removed (assuming this pans out) 4) The whole at-will/encounter/daily thing... for everyone! 5) Race abilities that develop over time. 6)...

Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

Well, effectively, the rule was one way before, now it's a different way. People could houserule it before, and I suppose if you are really set against this rule you can houserule it again. Which kind of sucks if you prefer it that way. But, well, for my part? Yay!

Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

DM Blake: Yes, you can scry the Hells (with, mind you, GREAT difficulty). So? What proof can anyone offer you that 'if I am evil, I will definitely go THERE and be tortured'? What, your God told you so? Maybe he's lying. In fact, maybe your 'detect evil' only tells you what your chump God...

WOTC, Scott, Where in the World is the GSL

I suspect suits have been absolutely horrified at 3e's OGL and freely available SRD rules, and are now in a Star Trekkian battle with devs over how much freedom to give 'parasites.' The suits have already won a few key battles, which really :):):):)ing sucks (IE: no SRD rules).

Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

... You honestly think people never do things that will result in bad outcomes in the misguided sense that it won't happen to them, or it won't happen soon enough to matter? I think RL has plenty of counter examples.

Raise Dead: A nice big bone to the simulationists

To the folks saying 'bah, I was already doing this': making the explanation part of the game means that the rest of the mechanics, demographics, and settings will incorporate this idea, rather than forcing you to go through and tweak anything that doesn't match up.
