D&D 5E (2024) The Cleric should be retired

You're confusing physical maturity with sociocultural maturity. If the question is "when does a character end their training/education and embark on a career," (i.e, when do they shift from Background to Class) or "when is a character considered an adult by their society," it is blatantly not...

D&D 5E (2024) The Cleric should be retired

I don’t think this schema works for all Species - lifespan affects cultural expectations of stages of development, so Dwarfs don't consider someone an adult until they're 50, Elves 100, Gnomes 40, and so on. Likewise, I don't think it works for backstories where someone studied more than one...

D&D 5E (2024) The Cleric should be retired

I guess what I'm having trouble with, in this analogy, is what counts as someone's Background and what counts as what they've done to attain a given level in their Class. A Wizard is described as having undergone academic study and apprenticeship, a Cleric as having done both religious and...

Yes, and they grew up with priestly training too. The two were not mutually exclusive.

Turpin, Odo, various medieval/Renaissance popes and Prince-Bishops did, the skeletons just had a bit more meat on the bones.

    D&D 5E (2024) The 2024 Core D&D Rulebooks Are Coming In May

I don’t think it is. We know that WoTC has been moving from Legendary Actions to multiple Reactions in earlier books, we know they’ve been changing how they do statblocks in earlier books, and we know how many monsters are going to be in the MM. Likewise, we have a sense of what the new material...

    D&D 5E (2024) The 2024 Core D&D Rulebooks Are Coming In May

I agree, I'd just add weapons and spells to that list, and monsters are as well, plus if the DMG has any other new systems like Bastions. I don't like "5.5" as a label, but it's certainly enough of a change to be worth the bother.

That's what they're kind of doing with half-feats, no?

    D&D 5E (2024) The 2024 Core D&D Rulebooks Are Coming In May

I don't think they're quite done with PHB stuff altogether - I think there's still a bunch of spells that need fixing, there's probably some Feat stuff too - but I imagine it'll be bundled into DMG and MM UAs, similar to how the Bastions and Cantrips packet combined DMG and PHB material.

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8 Monk Discussion

I don't think they'll go with Dazed on a save, because the change from Legendary Actions to multiple Reactions in monster design makes denial of Reaction and Bonus Action significantly more powerful. However, I think a weaker version of Dazed that just said you can either Move or take an Action...

    D&D 5E (2024) Playtest 8 Monk Discussion

Well, you can do the 60 ft version without the vertical surface, and Bonus Action Dash doesn't come with damage. I think the numbers are a bit better than you're suggesting. At 6th level, the fall damage from just teleporting is equivalent to a bit more than one Unarmed Strike, and because your...

Yeah, I wasn’t thinking of doing this every time, but finishing off an enemy with an epic diving elbow is just a cool moment.

Moving back to the Monk for a second: does this combo for a level 6+ Shadow Monk work? Shadow Step 60 ft vertically, then do a full Move up the vertical surface, then fall on top of your opponent, using Slow Fall to negate your half of the damage. At 6th level, you can go a max of 105 feet up...

D&D 5E (2024) Fixing short rest novaloops is important... using the moon druid

Well, “simple” and “easy” aren‘t the same thing: it’s a simple fix in the sense that it doesn’t require new mechanics, it’s a single line of text, and it doesn’t involve any complicated clauses that have implications for action economy or spell interactions or the like. But it’s not necessarily...

Yeah, that was what I was thinking. Just make it a straightforward rule of two short rests per long rest.

D&D 5E (2024) New Unearthed Arcana Playtest Includes Barbarian, Druid, and Monk

"If you Move on your turn, you can use some or all of that movement to move between the attacks of this action if you have a feature, such as Extra Attack, that gives you more than one attack as part of the Attack action." Does that not let you move between attacks taken with a single action...
