D&D General “‘Scantily Clad and Well Proportioned’: Sexism and Gender Stereotyping in the Gaming Worlds of TSR and Dungeons & Dragons.”

Correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that this is being questioned because there is a picture of a bunch of tieflings having a great time together. I can assure everyone that when queer folks get together we have a great time.

D&D General “‘Scantily Clad and Well Proportioned’: Sexism and Gender Stereotyping in the Gaming Worlds of TSR and Dungeons & Dragons.”

I said no such thing. We were talking about how all the species art has them being happy and that is pushing out the tragic backstory. And that just isn't true.

The species art pieces aren't depicting adventurers. Most members of a species shouldn't be adventurers and they should be able to have lives that have joy in them. Tieflings can still be outsiders in 5e 2024, they just find solace with each other.

It is a cliche that every D&D character has a tragic back story. Even so much that there are lots of jokes and memes about it. So I think we are in no danger of people knowing how to do it.

If it has 'choose any 3 stats' then it has very little mechanical weight and we are back to just saying you are the thing without needing rules about it.

Are they being depicted that way? The species certainly are but that is a good thing. I'm glad they don't have species reserved for that. There is a lot of room for what circumstances were like during the background and even after the background before the class. The character could be a...

Yeah, I can see that. It's just tough. The allegory, as it is under 'species', fits to kids of parents of mixed cultures and saying someone is 'half-black' is not okay or accurate even though there are very real consequences and stigma to it. So what do? I think we can still play them even...

Yeah, thankfully in 2024 half-orcs are just gone along with half-elves. There is a fantasy series I love that has half-elves but they only work because elves in that world are magical beings who are long gone from the lands. So the 'half' makes them mortal beings not solely made of magic. It...

I mean, unless they are infused with the power of an archfey :p But still yeah, gross. Definitely wearing boots down there. Another key difference I didn't touch on is that this image is not common in the 2024 PHB. If 90% of the women were dressed like this that would be a problem. Instead it...

    D&D 5E (2024) Random magic item tables

Thanks to someone (@Oofta ?) for the text list of the 2024 DMG magic items I have put together random item tables. These are not equally random. I made some decisions of which items I want to see more of and I removed the cursed items. I thought others might get some benefit from it. At the...

It isn't even necessarily about the clothing either. It is about threat and vulnerability. If the art is filled with strong angry men and vulnerable women it is going to be scary for women to enter that space. If the women have confidence that is different (to clarify the problem with...

Missing the point. It isn't about whether the magazines are successful. The point is that they are targeted at different audiences. And it isn't about what it says on them either, magazines are mostly full of garbage. I posted it for the pictures.

The man on the left looks scary, insecure, and like he's going to punch a hole in my drywall. The man on the right looks cozy and confident.

D&D General Changing subclasses mid-campaign (or even classes)

Sure, I never have a problem with a player changing. A subclass is pretty easy. Even easier is a feat change or whatever. A class change? At that point it seems like that would be a new character which is also fine. A class change while keeping the same character? I don't think so because it...

Hasbro Stock Price Surges After Elon Musk Makes Comments About Purchasing Company

That sounds about right for me. Back in the 3e days I did have some trepidation about telling people I played because it still had a reputation for not being inclusive. Personally though I think it has seeped into enough spaces that it can survive. It is popular among queer people for example...

D&D General Elon Musk Wants To Know 'How Much Is Hasbro?'

Rules can't be copyrighted. This is why there is a plethora of board games that have the same rules as popular ones with slightly different names and artwork. If the big board game companies could stop them they would have.

D&D General Elon Musk Wants To Know 'How Much Is Hasbro?'

I think D&D as we conceptualize it would be completely fine as rules can't be copyrighted and it is all our imaginations. As people have said, we will just move to another publishing company and depending on what their contracts allow them to do the current D&D creators will make games...
