D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

Sort of. Cleaning clothes is quite useful for social situations after adventuring. Or even during adventuring. A party will be more intimidating if they look spotless in the middle of a dungeon. Mending is quite good for the same purpose.

I don't think that is even necessary. People will get it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Skill Ranking

I would have picked Medicine 4 times if I could. It should be part of Nature. History is weird and I don't like it. It confuses players because isn't everything part of history? Maybe my biggest issue is the character building aspect of it. If a character travels to a new plane why would they...

Planescape Enhancing Turn of Fortune's Wheel

I really like a lot of what is in it. The alt covers and case are pretty and it's nice to have both the adventure and guide to Sigil and The Outlands. I find I am doing a lot more work than I usually do for an adventure to fill things in. In this case that is okay because I like the framework a...

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

At level 5 Defensive Duelist is your only feat, it requires a finesse weapon, and you can only choose to raise Dexterity with it. It adds +3 to AC while Shield adds +5. It's easy for the entire party to have multiple enspelled weapons and armour that can each cast Shield 6 times per day. That...

D&D General Muscular Neutrality (thought experiment)

Yeah. People aren't inherently selfish. We are a social species that survives when the community helps each other. By default we do good things. On top of that we can have philosophical thoughts that lead us to conclusions beyond just concerning ourselves with impulsive and immediate needs.

    Makes me think of this.

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

Yeah an enspelled weapon, staff, or armour is uncommon with a 1st level spell and has 6 charges. An uncommon item costs 400gp to buy or 200gp to craft. So with open buying and crafting it is easy for a party of 5th+ level characters to have enough shield spells for the day and any other 1st...

This is just for the 6th level ability to make an uncommon weapon or armour.

Could you show me where it says it is an action?

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

Oh good call. I will need to actually look up the list of spells then. Still, getting that many 1st level spells must be good.

D&D Releases Playtest for Updated Artificer

At first glance I really like this update. Lots of little buffs as well as simplifying things. The Homunculus is a pretty big buff. Doesn't take an infusion/magic item creation and doesn't require Bonus Action to attack. The only thing of course that has been talked about is the same problem...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

Re: Fire Elemental With the introduction of common magic weapons it makes sense to do away with resistance to non-magical weapons. I am happy to see that they have kept those resistances for creatures with magical forms. It is good for some characters to do better in some encounters than...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I think WotC are doing all they can to make the monsters easier to play more effectively and dynamically. There are limits though where we will see the same complaints and problems. We're going to see the Strahd problem for high level encounters. Even with many pages to describe Strahd's...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

Thanks for posting those. I prefer the updated versions across the board. Not every single decision is one I would make but in general they're much easier to read, easier to manage their abilities in combat, and should make for more interesting combats.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

100%. What is the difference between the 2024 update and a book full of optional rules? To me the main difference is aesthetics and usability. The are is updated and there is more of it. The books are easier to read. Instead of having a separate book of alternate rules they have printed them...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

One thing I am hoping to see is more interaction with damage types as the CR rises. Monsters should be vulnerable to more things. Maybe the Stone Golem is an exception because they should be tough, and I think the adamantine weakness got moved to the weapon itself which is nice for stat block...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

I love the redesigns in general. They will greatly reduce the cognitive load on the DM (incl. through easier readability) which will increase the complexity of encounters and the game in general. Or at the very least, speed things up. I guarantee there are DMs out there that had their Mage NPC...

D&D General Muscular Neutrality (thought experiment)

Yeah, this is essentially post-modernism as I understand it. Once atomic bombs dropped people re-thought what they considered to be good, but now the genie can't be put back in the bottle so what do what we can.

Worlds of Design: Why Buy Adventures?

I only play published adventures. I have no interest in creating everything from scratch when I can use resources already available and then put effort into creating more content and tweaks to that content. Published adventure + my prep time > just my prep time.
