Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

I think the point was that people who were closest to him are the best judges of what he was actually like. Not the only judges mind you... just the best ones. To your point, that doesn't preclude anyone else offering an opinion. The post you're responding to doesn't make any judgements...

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

I appreciate what you're saying, but I don't think the person you're responding to was saying any of that.

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

I agree with a lot of what you've said here. Honestly. However... This post would have been much better if you had left the smugness and certainty of your position you're decrying from the 'other side' out of it. Calling the other side flat earthers? That's not a good look for you. There is a...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Lackluster Ranger

I see what you're saying. Is the solution that you give all classes abilities that participate equally well in all pillars? Maybe, although I doubt it, and I'm not sure that's possible or even necessary. Are you sure you are putting foreword some sort of hypothetical only scenario? I think most...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Lackluster Ranger

Fair enough. Not being a player of A5e, what are the aspects of the adventure/DM books that gives an extra 'boost' to that Ranger?

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

120%. You left one overlap out of your Venn diagram (I guess truth table is a better analogy) though: you can't be someone who sees the immediately and obviously questionable things, then immediately disregards the 'something "good" for you'. These discussions always fall down when: a) sides...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Lackluster Ranger

You think so? There are a few warts on the A5e Ranger. I don't think failure to stand up in the combat tier is an issue. Granted, I only briefly looked at the class, so there is a pretty strong chance I've missed something. What are the particular bits that you are concerned about?

    D&D 5E (2024) The Lackluster Ranger

There are many constraints on that observation! I wonder if that consensus would still be held after this crowd had actually used these characters for a bit. With 2024 particularly, there are not really any classes that are super duper behind the curve IMO (Monk: Way of the Four Elements...

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

I was about to break my own rule about correcting people's spelling mistakes... I've seen this one a few times in this thread and it was creating an itch I needed to scratch. Thanks for jumping on that grenade!

    D&D 5E (2024) The Lackluster Ranger

The 2024 implementation doubles down on the idea of Hunter's Mark as a spell, which to me, is a point against it. In its favour, it does a pretty good job of putting lipstick on that pig (e.g. getting tons of free uses). I get that the 2024 designers were more than likely handcuffed by the...

    D&D 5E (2024) The Lackluster Ranger

I've got the SRD for Level Up downloaded. I find certain aspects of it a bit fiddly and overly-detailed, but it is nonetheless a great representation of what a spell-less Ranger should be.

D&D Beyond Adds Illrigger Class from MCDM

Wow... I had a subscription to Dragon for a number of years. That issue is in my crawlspace somewhere.

By the same token, it's often the case that someone who favours spellcasting Rangers mentions the Scout as an option. If one considers the Scout to be what people picture when they think of a spell-less Ranger, they are quite wrong.

D&D Beyond Adds Illrigger Class from MCDM

I like the word... evocative, but yeah what does it mean? There's a post from 2002 here on ENWorld referencing the term referring back to a 1E/2E game!

    D&D 5E (2024) The Lackluster Ranger

You seem to favour heavy optimisation in your character builds. Stands to reason the other players you come across have the same viewpoint? Multiclassing Rangers, especially for that reason, seems more like an optimiser thing rather than a choice someone playing for the flavour of the class...
