D&D 4E 4e -- Is The World Made Of Cheese?

I really don't see a problem here. Is DM Fiat really so bad?

D&D 4E 4e fixed the math, so what's with the +6 skill items?

Otherwise impossible challenges don't occur at high levels?

Magic Items and their resale value

Here's my take. The economic system of 3.5 was 4 things. 1- Unrealistic. While a lot of folks are pointing out how unrealistic the economy of 4e is, 3e was no better. 2- Time Consuming. The process of figuring out each person's take of the treasure, and then figuring out what you wanted...

    Is Forced Movement Inherently Breakable?

It is worth mentioning that "Hindering Terrain" does not mean things like bushes, rocks, or unstable footing. Those would be in the category of "Difficult Terrain".

    The New 1st Level...

1st level characters are not that cool. They can be fun to play, but they certainly aren't supermen.

Torrent throwdown on the Wizards board

    A little hyperbolic...

    D&D 4E 4E-inspired art...

I would say that is my favorite, too. Wizards really could use some of this stuff.

Really, No PC Gnomes! Stop Asking!

    That is frighteningly accurate.

    Eliminating the divine power source?

eh... you could still do sword and sorcery with no playable casters. The quintessential Sword & Sorcery story is Conan, and casters are pretty much universally villainous in those.

Cure Disease will KILL YOU TO DEATH!

I am extremely happy about this. In 3e, you didn't want to throw diseases at characters until they had access to healing it. Once they did, it was just annoying. "Ok, how long until we can rest/go to town so I can get this cured from me?" or "Great, DM likes diseases. I'll have to prepare...

    Is Everything a Power Now?

Wizard powers are called Spells, so yes there are spells, they just belong under the subheading Powers. I believe ranged powers provoke opportunity attacks. Unless Otherwise Stated of course. (new acronym? UOS?)

    We're back to AD&D1

    Poo. :(

    We're back to AD&D1

How exciting. I can't wait to get my DMG.

    We're back to AD&D1

I felt the same thing in the transition between 2e and 3e. And for me, 3rd edition was the death of role-play (it wasn't, obviously.). A diplomacy skill? Scandal. Social interaction was being reduced to die-rolling. Completely. End of story... and we were wrong. Which is what makes me...

"My hat of flight noes know limits"

QFT. I totally agree. Most flight in fantasy is reserved for things with wings, and the occasional flying transportation, like flying carpets and airships. Not usually superhero type stuff.

Are PCs expected to beat skill challenges?

perhaps the idea is to teach dm's and players how to use skill challenges; not every challenge is going to be, or should be a cakewalk. In order for skill challenges to work, players and DM's will have to learn to accept failure as an outcome. For instance... Lets first look at a 3.5 skill...

    D&D 4E No evil gods in 4e?

It doesn't limit player options explicitly any longer. Now it simply implies that evil deities are the province of the dm. Does that implication keep you from worshipping hextor? I suppose it would depend on your DM... Plus ca change...

What will you use for minions?

Nice. I especially like the use of final fantasy sprites. squee!

    D&D 4E No Roleplaying XP in 4e

We gave RP XP off and on, and usually it just turned into a standard xp bonus. I think the fact that they are talking about it this time around (I don't recall any mention of RP XP during the introduction of 3e) may be an indication that the game was designed without the assumption that DM's...
