Beholders, Mind Flayers, and Strahd von Zarovich Released Into Creative Commons (Kinda)

The Coeurl is still protected, but Paizo was able to license it back in 3.5. Kamadans are Open Content, though, thanks to the Tome of Horrors.

It is time to forgive WOTC and get back onboard.

I'm not getting back onboard, but I'm moving on. It's a great severance package, but WotC is probably done with Open Gaming. Their leadership still thinks that the game is undermonetized and they invested a amount in Digital Initiative 2.0. So, 1D&D will likely be a game that I'm not interested...

Now that this is over (for now at least) What are you going to do?

Still switching to PF2. The OGL fiasco was just the final straw, I have been unsatisfied with their WotCs offerings for a while. I'm also interested in how the ORC will develop.

    A proposal for a multi-tiered license structure

They also have a D&D on Monopoly:

Do you think this OGL fiasco will be good or bad for the RPG industry on the whole?

What I forgot to mention in my earlier post is that I really like the idea of the ORC. It's still WIP, but the whole idea of a significant part of the industry working to create a common license is a huge positive, especially when you consider that publishers were inspired by it to release SRDs...

Do you think this OGL fiasco will be good or bad for the RPG industry on the whole?

It's certainly bad for a number of 3PPs and it could be bad for WotC, but for the industry as a whole, it's mostly beneficial. There was a vicious cycle of content providers feeling they had to support 5e to gain views and in doing so further cemented 5e's dominance. This fiasco might be (or...

    Matt Colville weighs in.

You don't really need a subscription to gain access to Paizo's game rules, they are released as Open Content and available through the Archives of Nethys. Of course, that doesn't include modules and setting, but it's still pretty nice.

D&D 5E (2014) Which D&D books currently scheduled for 2023 are you interested in?

It was Eberron - Rising from the Last War that I meant. So, it was the Eberron book that worked for me, Shadow of the Dragon Queen isn't really a setting book.

Paizo OGL Fiasco, and surge of support for Paizo, sells out the PF2 Core Rulebook

I guess that makes Paizo the biggest sellout among the 3PPs ... Actually quite good news, apart from people having to wait to get the books.

    Matt Colville weighs in.

WotC has done Loot Boxes for 30 years. They call them "Magic the Gathering" or something.

D&D 5E (2014) Which D&D books currently scheduled for 2023 are you interested in?

I guess "none" not being an option skews the results. It would have been my pick. I was already underwhelmed by most recent books before WotC started this mess. I really liked Rising from the Last War, but considering Ravenloft and Spelljammer have no hopes for Planescape. There are still...

Pathfinder 2E Will the OGL fiasco increase third party support for Pathfinder?

I'm not sure if that evidence still applies. This years happenings might have been quite a game changer (no pun intended).

Pathfinder 2E Will the OGL fiasco increase third party support for Pathfinder?

They also have the Pathfinder Compatibility License which is closer to the old d20 license (and the creator logo WotC is proposing). https://paizo.com/pathfinder/compatibility

Pathfinder 2E Will the OGL fiasco increase third party support for Pathfinder?

During its height of popularity, Pathfinder had a considerable amount of 3PPs. Not nearly as much as 3E or 5E, but it even had it's share of successful Kickstarter campaigns (including some I'm still waiting to receive). But many left for 5E, others disappeared after failing to deliver...

GenCon dropping COVID vaccination, masks mandates in 2023

Mandatory masks are only effective if you are willing to enforce their proper use. There are awful lots of people who seem to be incapable of keeping their masks above their noses. The best course of action is wearing a proper FFP2 mask yourself and avoiding physical contact.
