    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Some shouting does matter. WotC doesn't love getting criticized in podcasts and video blogs. That spreads the discontent. But overall, yes, subscriptions probably matter the most. The example in the previous post was that all the fans of the Acolyte didn't come out until after the show was...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

We bought the spells. We bought the books the spells are in. They are removing those spells and replacing them with the new versions. If we want to keep them, we have to homebrew them. Copy them. Thus they are clawing back the content we purchased.

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Disingenuous. "I'm guessing those happy aren't going to complain." "the small minority who are angry" These are clear statements that minority viewpoints aren't as important as unknown larger hypothetical unspoken masses. The complainers are less relevant because they are a minority. According...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

It's interesting to hear people defending a corporate strategy that says: it's irrelevant if we piss off the most active dungeonmasters, those who engage in roleplaying forum, because a larger number, those who aren't as engaged, won't even care or notice this change we're making. So because it...

    D&D 5E (2024) How D&D Beyond Will Handle Access To 2014 Rules

Lots of folks on the DDB message boards are furious about this and quite a few are quitting their subscriptions too. It hasn’t built to the drama of the OGL fiasco, but it’s definitely a decision that is bad PR, is pissing off a lot of subscribers and shows how little they respect users of the...

    Fiction Writer's Thread

Hello. Just thought I'd join the thread given the topic. I've self-published two novels and a collection of short writing. I won a literary award for my second novel, A Greater Monster--received a Gold Medal as Outstanding Book of the Year in the Independent Publisher Book Awards the year that I...

D&D General How to approach hostility (in the background) between in-world countries caused by players?

Oooh, i like number 7. One of the players is a Wood Elf from one of the two countries. His adoptive mother could have been kidnapped by a Kobold war party. Cue the rescue mission.

D&D General How to approach hostility (in the background) between in-world countries caused by players?

These all make sense, I'm struggling a bit figuring out how to get them involved in this without being just "telling them" about this. Right now, they are in a 3rd country. I could at least inform them some of this is happening because they are about to have a conversation with the royal family...

D&D General How to approach hostility (in the background) between in-world countries caused by players?

Oooh, that's hilarious. "Could I suggest that you also de-stabilize the Dwarven alliance with the Orc nation...?"

D&D General How to approach hostility (in the background) between in-world countries caused by players?

Haha! That's a great idea! They do have a growing reputation, mostly positive. I love the idea of smacking their character's egos just a little bit with a reminder that they have inflamed aggression between countries. I guess that's what happens when you steal the Royal Wizard's spell book...

D&D General How to approach hostility (in the background) between in-world countries caused by players?

Thanks for the suggestion. I think in this case, it's likely to go a different direction because one of the nations is also involved in some nefarious doings while they other isn't. But you've sparked an interesting idea...if this detente does happen in the future, and by that point, if the PCs...

D&D General How to approach hostility (in the background) between in-world countries caused by players?

These are great ideas! Thank you. And yes, my world is very cosmopolitan so while nations tend to be primarily populated by one species or another, there are diverse significant populations across species, and there is no racial enmity or racism in my world.

D&D General How to approach hostility (in the background) between in-world countries caused by players?

Whoops. I've tried to clarify in the title now. It's a bit convoluted to summarize...

D&D General How to approach hostility (in the background) between in-world countries caused by players?

So the players in one of my campaigns in my homebrew world kind of...accidentally started hostility between a Kobold nation and a Wood Elf nation. Whoops! It's not to the level out outright war, like massed troops, it's primarily diplomatic hostility however I'm envisioning that some skirmishes...

    Bombarded with spam threads?

Since I see them in my Feedly, I would have to click through to report each one, and that takes too much time. Plus, I don’t want to actually land on those posts. It’s bad enough seeing the Titles.

Yeah, I saw a couple this morning in my feed. They are like roaches, these spambots.
