Evil Drow Statblocks to Return in Forgotten Realms Rulebooks Later This Year

I don't think so, with the chicken-vs-egg aspect. Elves are popular in fantasy fiction, even outside of D&D. D&D, of course, took its core three elven subraces (high, gray, wood) from Tolkien . . . but if you get into the weeds in the Tolkien legendarium, he had LOTS of elven subgroups as well...

I liked that in MotM also, even if on a case-by-case basis I didn't always care for specific choices. But that's the thing, the subtypes for each species aren't always based on the same thing. So it makes sense that different player options might have different kinds of subtype choices. Being...

Hey man, that's how we do things now in the post-truth era. Catch up with the times!

Well, in the 2024 rules, the idea of "subrace" or "subspecies" is kinda sorta quietly gone. Some species have options, some more than others, but they aren't presented as subspecies. Then again, I'm not sure that word or concept really shows up in 2014 D&D either. I was hoping we'd get a...

Evil Drow Statblocks to Return in Forgotten Realms Rulebooks Later This Year

Truth. I suspect that attempts to move away from depicting people-as-monsters is a part of the new design philosophy behind MM 2024, but only a part. Moving lore from core books to setting books seems to be an important consideration as well. Providing statblocks for evil drow in the new FR...

D&D Movie/TV Netflix Planning Forgotten Realms D&D TV Show With Stranger Things Producer

If I read the news correctly, they won't be releasing the second season either.

It's not that TSR had a thing for elves, it's that fans have a thing for elves. People like elves! So, TSR gave them elves.

Unlikely. The development on the FR book was likely largely completed before the "controversy" of statblocks in the MM. Besides, I really doubt the negativity represents a majority of fans, just the loud and cranky ones, and WotC is aware of that.

Sure you can have your opinions. I got plenty! You can like a thing I don't, or dislike a thing I do. It's the ignorant opinions I find tiresome. The ones not based on any actual experience or knowledge of a thing.

Just wait a page or two. If it isn't yet, it will be. We'll also probably start re-litigating "race", "phylactery", maybe even gender-based ability restrictions . . . Have you seen the other thread? It's wild.

Let me guess, you didn't read the novel trilogy featuring the aevendrow, or starlight elves, right? I mean, that's okay if you didn't. Salvatore's Dark Elf novels aren't for everyone. But you mocking that of which you know nothing is tiresome.

Good news, but . . . I'm going to do my best not to get excited until the show actually appears on my Netflix homepage. Projects get announced and killed too often, this ain't real until it's real!

Somehow, I think your game will survive without the drow statblocks in the upcoming FR book. The newest toolbox isn't missing any tools. You just don't like some of the tools in the box. Which is okay, if you prefer the older tools. You don't need the supplemental Realms toolbox and the new...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Ability caps for female characters is a pretty awful idea, or any restrictions based on gender. But I'm also glad the ability mods based on species have recently been yanked from the game. The game is too abstract for any of that to make sense, and it leads to stereotyped thinking and limited...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Love it! If we cap Str for women, we also have to cap Wis, Con, and Dex for men. The stereotypical differences between men and women are just that, largely stereotypical. The differences that do exist are mostly cultural, rather than biological. On average, men do tend to be stronger than...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Dude, he's just stating he would prefer them to be in there, both in the 2014 MM and the 2024 MM. It's not a problem, it's a preference. I'm on board with it too. I understand why WotC did what they did in the new MM, and I'm behind the sentiment. I think @Clint_L is too. I actually love the...
