Is the Order of the Bow Initiate Overpowered?

Sure, if you let 1st level scumbag clerics cast it. From memory, that's one of the "sanctified" spells. I.E., it's only available at the whim of the gods (i.e., the DM). So if the DM has a problem with it, the players will never even have an opportunity to cast it. And they would only have...

And your favorite module writer is?

I agree completely that Paul J. is the man. I can't rate Dark Tower, since alas I've never seen a copy, but Caverns of Thracia is truly excellent. To the above list you must also add Duck Tower and co-authorship of Griffin Mountain (both for RuneQuest). My favourite module of his, though, is...

TSR Example from the worst TSR adventure module(s) ever published

Ah. That explains why the writing style seemed oddly familiar. He was heavily involved in one of the worst RPGs I own, Pacesetter's Time Master. The sample adventure included in that game was not only heavily railroaded, it involved some of the most ludicrous events I've ever seen. (E.G., if...

TSR Example from the worst TSR adventure module(s) ever published

So, the DM has to read things like "see map 3A" to the players, right? It seems that there was no actual independent playtesting of the module done, to catch all of these obvious "what the ...?" questions. The one I hated for its stupidity was B3, Palace of the Silver Princess (I mean the...

    Complete Warrior Errata Question

I just acquired a copy of Complete Warrior, and I'm going through the errata from WOTC. I note the following: Page 58: Master Thrower’s Thrown Weapon Trick (class feature) The master thrower’s palm throw ability counts as a volley attack, and only one instance of precision-based damage applies...

[Shackled City]Where on Earth(precisely) is Cauldron

The last part of your sentence doesn't match the first part. New Zealand is not a semi-tropical region, nor is it particularly close to any (unless you count northern Queensland as "close"). I think NZ has rainforests, but that's not the same as "tropical".

Stormwrack - Mastering the Perils of Wind and Wave

Regarding discrepancies between spell lists and spell descriptions: an email I received from WOTC not long ago said that in any such cases you should always give preference to the spell description, as the spell lists are often compiled late in the process and receive the least amount of proofing.

    Campaign Specific Website

I voted "don't need one" but what I really wanted was an option for "don't want one".

    Rate I6 - Ravenloft

Um ... that's exactly what Ravenloft was trying to achieve ... and although you could play Midnight as a "gothic horror" setting, I disagree that it's intended to be played that way, or is even particularly well-suited to it.

You too can be a D&D developer!

I was more impressed that the article claims at one point that 11 is "more than half" of 22. Not, I thought, an auspicious start to a series of articles about the importance of development! (I sent an email to WOTC and they acknowledged the goof with a laugh.)

    Best Midnight books to get?

All of them. There aren't that many, and with the exception of Fury of Shadow are all quite reasonably priced. You don't really need Against the Shadow, the bulk of which has been incorporated into M2E, although there are a couple of odds and ends in it that are still interesting. The books...

Worst D&D adventure of all time?

No, it wasn't, and no, I'm not. The only people confused around here are those who apparently haven't been reading the thread very closely before stating what isn't mentioned in it.

So... tell me about Dawforge, Fireborn, & Midnight

2nd ed. Midnight has been out for a couple of months now. It is certainly an improvement mechanically (integration with 3.5e, better balancing of character classes and races, etc.). It's not at all different from 1st ed. in terms of atmosphere, setting etc. What's it like? The typical...

Worst D&D adventure of all time?

Uh ... it's been mentioned perhaps more often than any single other module. At least a dozen citations. You have read the entire thread, right?

"Tactics in Action"--maybe I'm just getting too old, but this sounded boring as hell.

I'm not sure that this is correct. Most spell-like abilities are only a standard action to use, but the MM Glossary says that it's pretty much just like Summon Monster, which implies that it's a full-round action. The Rules of the Game articles on Spell-like Abilities from the WOTC website...

    "He's the greatest X" = level ?

Level 1 (and unlikely to reach Level 2). Since he was likely hung for his crimes (where else would he get such notoriety?), it probably doesn't matter much any more.

City State of the Invincible Overlord - Old School Revisited

Well, I suppose it's possible to be less "Tolkienesque" than Greyhawk, but dropping Hârn in the middle of that list strikes me as ... bizarre. The designers of Hârn went to extreme efforts to make their world as unlike "traditional" "high fantasy" worlds like Greyhawk and the others you list as...

Your opinion about very small PDFs

If I'm going to buy a PDF in the first place, I expect that I will be printing it out. In which case I want it short, because printing is expensive. If the content of the PDF is too big to comfortably print, then I would want it in hard copy and would prefer to purchase it that way.

'Old School' Experiences with D&D 3.5

Sounds like a lot of nonsense to me. "Old school" is a style of gaming, not a rules set. My experience is that I did my time playing AD&D and while I enjoyed the gaming I hated the rules. So I sought out other games with rules that I preferred (which, for me, means "they mostly make sense...

City State of the Invincible Overlord - Old School Revisited

Hârn as "old school"? :\ I think Hârn's emphasis on socio-economics and politics, and de-emphasis of monster-slaying and loot-grabbing, make it very decidedly not "old school" ( and I suspect that was exactly the intent of the designers). (And of course it was never a TSR product ... nor was...
