D&D General DM Says No Powergaming?

The 5e Warlock description seems to describe more gaining knowledge than power from the patron. Not hard to make it so they only teach you how to do the magic, rather than being a magical battery the Warlock needs to work.

D&D 5E (2014) What is REALLY wrong with the Wizard? (+)

Worth noting that the nomagical immunity is only to bludgeoning, piercing and slashing attacks, usually. Fall damage still works, so would burning oil or acid, so those are options they could have as well, although to burn a monster's hp with those would take a while.

D&D 5E (2014) What is REALLY wrong with the Wizard? (+)

There seems to be 160 statblocks total who are immune to nonmagical b/p/s, although some can be harmed with adamantine or silver.

D&D General Simulacrum and then True Polymorph

There is one Beast statblock that has normal spellcasting that I know of, Traxigor, who's an archmage that turned himself into an Otter permanently.

D&D General Simulacrum and then True Polymorph

The Deep Rothé can cast Dancing Lights with innate spellcasting, although that seems to be the only beast with one.

D&D General Simulacrum and then True Polymorph

If you wish to turn into another creature and keep your spellcasting and other class/race abilities, the Shapechange spell does exactly that, but it has more limitations to compensate for it.

D&D General Simulacrum and then True Polymorph

The way I see it is that when you polymorph yourself you lose all your normal features, although you can still use them if the new form has those. Say, a Wizard True Polymorphs into a Ki-Rin, they won't have their Wizard spellcasting, but can use the Ki-Rin's Cleric spellcasting.

D&D General Simulacrum and then True Polymorph

According to Jeremy Crawford, they'd still obey you after being transformed, although mechanics past that are hard to say how it works. Edit: They probably couldn't learn more spells or recover spell slots still, since the Simulacrum restrictions should still be active, at least.

D&D General Hot Take: D&D Has Not Recovered From 2E to 3.0 Transition

They are usually very durable, especially a tier 4, but they end up pretty much like Superman, extremely mighty head on, but with the clear weaknesses that can easily beat them, like Magic, Kryptonite or Red Sun Radiation, it's just locked away on the kinds of monsters that can target those...

D&D General Hot Take: D&D Has Not Recovered From 2E to 3.0 Transition

A weakness that makes you instantly useless if any enemy bothers to target it, yeah, not great. It's like Superman's Kryptonite, sometimes it instantly depowers him to human level and makes him useless, other times it just weakens him enough that weaker supervillains can face him, but he still...

D&D General Hot Take: D&D Has Not Recovered From 2E to 3.0 Transition

I've seen a Banishment TPK as well, you target the Barbarian and the Fighter with their +0 to Charisma save, then the rest of the group is screwed. Fighters and Barbarians get Con and Str, former is great, latter is mostly useless. They're basically required to get Resilient Wisdom to not get...

D&D 5E (2014) What is REALLY wrong with the Wizard? (+)

Why Wizards, then? If Gandalf was called a Bard, Druid, Warlock, Sorcerer or Cleric, would you say those classes should be more powerful than others? He has about as much to do with those as with the D&D Wizard.

D&D 5E (2014) What is REALLY wrong with the Wizard? (+)

Gandalf is a godlike being who's older than the universe, the problem is less wizard and more that his DM allowed the overpowered Maiar race, big mistake.

D&D 5E (2014) What is REALLY wrong with the Wizard? (+)

No spell is really Wizard exclusive, since the Bard's Magical Secrets exist, and there are a lot of subclasses that can get spells from others, like Arcana Clerics.

D&D 5E (2014) What is REALLY wrong with the Wizard? (+)

A couple of sessions ago in the campaign I'm playing in, our party was going through a giant undewater pipe to get to the bottom of the ocean. Along the way we got ambushed by a giant bird fish thing, it tore up our Fighter/Rogue, everyone was blasting at it but it seemed to have a lot of HP...

D&D 5E (2014) What is REALLY wrong with the Wizard? (+)

For an example, I play on a westmarch with a fair amount of high level play, and my Wizard hit level 17 recently. He got Wish and True Polymorph and immediately he got the ability to turn his Simulacrum into a Ki-Rin, which is a level 18 Cleric that can cast True Resurrection even. That sort of...

D&D 5E (2014) What is REALLY wrong with the Wizard? (+)

The issue with Wizard is that a lot of spells are insanely overpowered. It goes for other casters as well, but Wizards have the most spells and can do the most crazy stuff with them.

    D&D 5E (2014) Choose 3 to protect you (a poll)

Solars have the Resurrection spell, so even if I die, they can bring me back. Good in a fight too, easy choice. Greatwyrm is the strongest individually, good AoE to wipe out the Kobolds. The party ought to have some Teleportation or Plane Shift spell, so they can just send me to somewhere...

D&D 5E (2014) Who's the Best Arcanist (According to You)

After playing Wizard, Sorcerer is pretty miserable. Sorcery Points are too few, and there's just levels when they don't get any new spells, while Wizards are always getting at least two, and can copy a lot more. Known spells just seem like worse than prepared spells in every way as well.
