    D&D 5E (2024) Ranger playtest discussion

Wizards in HP are born with their power, they can use it instinctually as children, and just go to school to learn to control it. More like a Sorcerer.

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Expert Classes Playtest Document Is Live

For those skill proficiencies and expertises to really matter, they'll need a good skill system, with examples of what you can do with a check that could actually make a Ranger stand out with their nature and survival skills. As it is in 5e, it's too DM dependant, and most effects that just work...

D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Expert Classes Playtest Document Is Live

Scout Fighter is from Unearthed Arcana, rather old one from 2016.

    D&D 5E (2024) Ranger playtest discussion

The 2014 Ranger had a bunch of features that were non-magical, and a lot of them were awful or outright useless. Definitely more of an issue with the design, Primeval Awareness was bad and it was magical as well, they just have to make non-magical features that don't suck.

    D&D 5E (2024) Ranger playtest discussion

I want to be hopeful for the changes in this edition, but then they think going from d6 to d10 is a good capstone for a whole class, and I just give up.

Unless they specify that mages can't cast in armor, getting medium and shields for one feat will be great for Sorcerers and Wizards, no need to be multiclassing or going specific races.

Having read those Ranger features, it's good to know WoTC still hates them.

D&D 5E (2024) Upcoming One D&D: Unearthed Arcana 'Expert' Classes (Bard, Ranger, Rogue)

Seems like the classes that get the super good skill checks, their signature feature will be having Expertise.

D&D 5E (2024) Upcoming One D&D: Unearthed Arcana 'Expert' Classes (Bard, Ranger, Rogue)

Just a list to keep track: ASIs are a feat now. Will give the Arcane/Primal/Divine list to 9th level. Seems like they changed the nat 20/1 rules again to the old ones. Rolling a 1 giving inspiration, I've seen a lot of people suggesting this. 40k people did the survey. Ranger/Rogue/Bard are the...

D&D 5E (2014) Discussing Worldbuilding: Why Don't The Mages Take Over The World?

Yeah, if you wanna rule a kingdom, you'd need to be a spellcaster, have spellcasters working for you, or have enough magic items to make up for them, the advantages magic gives are just too immense.

What is With All The Asian Character Spam???

Enworld.com seems to be a Japanese business website, so they prob got us confused with them.

D&D 5E (2014) Discussing Worldbuilding: Why Don't The Mages Take Over The World?

If we're taking the highest levels into account, a huge advantage some magic has is just living very, very long, which should help if they wanna rule things at some point in their lives. At 18th level Druids get Timeless Body, which just for a human will let them live for hundreds of years...

D&D General Reminder: Spellfire can come out of any body part…

I've never read any of Ed's books, but this sounds exactly how I've imagined them.

D&D 5E (2014) Discussing Worldbuilding: Why Don't The Mages Take Over The World?

Since this is for 5e, this is the write up for Apprentice Wizards on Volo's Guide to Monsters: This is the picture given, looks like a teenager to me, and that's a 1st level Wizard. Wealthy individuals should be able to pay gold to learn without needing to work in menial services, so to learn...

D&D 5E (2014) Discussing Worldbuilding: Why Don't The Mages Take Over The World?

That's true. Maybe Nondetection instead, although it's a level higher and way more expensive to use, with a shorter duration. I think it should work on Detect Magic, unless the DM rules that sensing the magic around a creature isn't targetting a creature with the spell.

D&D 5E (2014) Discussing Worldbuilding: Why Don't The Mages Take Over The World?

Not quite relevant to the thread, but it's pretty funny that becoming a king and ruling the lands is a classic objective for the high level Fighters, and so many people seem to agree that mages wouldn't even bother since they got better stuff to do.

D&D 5E (2014) Discussing Worldbuilding: Why Don't The Mages Take Over The World?

It's a bit confusing since the DMG rules do say that you need to be a spellcaster, so it'd depend on which one the DM is using.

D&D 5E (2014) Discussing Worldbuilding: Why Don't The Mages Take Over The World?

I think the rules for creating magic items don't say that you need to be a spellcaster to make them, at least the Xanathar's ones, so a non-spellcaster ruler could use those to help out against magic, I guess. Wands of Magic Detection are absolutely essential. Although there's the handy Magic...

D&D 5E (2014) Discussing Worldbuilding: Why Don't The Mages Take Over The World?

Depends on the level of magic in the setting, but I do believe it'd make sense for them to just be running most things, or at least delegating it to others while being the face in charge. In a world where individuals can become immensily powerful, the high level people would probably be running...
