D&D 5E (2014) Discussing Worldbuilding: Why Don't The Mages Take Over The World?

Whenever a Wizard takes over a city, an anti-magic field covers the whole thing. It's the law.

D&D 5E (2014) Have we misunderstood the shield and sword fighter (or warrior)?

Items are entirely DM dependant, so it's usually easier to ignore them. If you can get the ones you want, then magic shields would get you way higher, yeah, you can easily get 25+ AC with them and magic armor.

D&D 5E (2014) Have we misunderstood the shield and sword fighter (or warrior)?

For Sword and Shield specifically, I think the Shield doesn't give enough of a benefit to make up for the huge difference in damage if feats are involved, at least for a Fighter. Without feats, it should be better, yeah.

D&D 5E (2014) Have we misunderstood the shield and sword fighter (or warrior)?

PAM doesn't actually specify you need to use the weapon with two hands to do the bonus action attack, so it works just fine with shield + spear/quarterstaff. It's good enough damage, especially with a Paladin for the extra smites, although just using a sword instead wouldn't work.

D&D 5E (2014) The Decrease in Desire for Magic in D&D

In 5e you can grapple a Rhino in place with one hand, so it's pretty much magic already tbh.

D&D 5E (2014) The Decrease in Desire for Magic in D&D

Yes, in an extremely magical world where half of everything needs magic to exist, maybe there shouldn't be a spell that turns off magic entirely, so we can actually characters have characters do cool things without wondering if they can wrestle a giant in an anti-magic field, or need Sage Advice...

D&D 5E (2014) The Decrease in Desire for Magic in D&D

Maybe Anti-Magic fields should just cease to be a thing, they seem to cause more trouble than they're worth, definitely one of the worst spells in 5e in regards to what it even applies to.

    D&D 5E (2014) Frighteningly Frightened

While it works pretty much the same as the Fear spell, Turn Undead doesn't seem to inflict Frightened, they're just Turned. Makes you wonder why there's a dinstiction if most undead aren't immune to frightened anyway. Edit: Alright, checking it, there's a fair amount immune to frightened, actually.

[+] The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - SPOILERS ALLOWED

I liked the Hobbit parts, the Elf bois in the slave camp was alright, but I'm not liking the Numenor stuff, just weird how things are going, and what the hell was that horse slow-mo scene.

D&D 5E (2014) Are Wizards really all that?

So it's the opposite of what people have been talking about, instead of not having enough Wizards for magic knowledge to be common, Wizards just rule the world from the shadows and don't let people know how they do things.

D&D 5E (2014) Are Wizards really all that?

I truly can't fathom how you could keep magic knowledge secret in FR, they have more archmages than commoners there.

D&D 5E (2014) Are Wizards really all that?

I think just knowledge on spells isn't hard to justify, Lizard McWizard wrote the best selling book "Fantastic Spells and How to Counter Them" 100 years ago, and it became mandatory reading for all children in the nation's schools. I do think the average person should know more about magic...

[+] The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - SPOILERS ALLOWED

They're definitely changing a lot in regards to lore, compressing the timeline and stuff. Not a huge issue for me, even the LoTR movies changed a ton of stuff.

[+] The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - SPOILERS ALLOWED

I'm pretty sure that was alluding to the earlier scene where the torches of the elves didn't have any heat inside Sauron's lair.

[+] The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - SPOILERS ALLOWED

Sauron tried to sneakily get back to Valinor through the north, but Tulkas found him and kicked him into orbit, making him fall near Mordor and lose his memory from his head injuries.

[+] The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - SPOILERS ALLOWED

I wonder if they're changing how the Elven reincarnation works, everyone seemed to treat Finrod's death as quite final, and Elrond didn't say, "Girl, you can see your brother again when you go to Valinor, stop talking like he's dead".

[+] The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - SPOILERS ALLOWED

They're definitely changing the lore quite a bit, and the dialogue is weird at times, but I liked it well enough. Nowhere near as bad as I expected.

D&D 5E (2014) Are Wizards really all that?

For diseases, there's Detect Poison and Disease, would let you detect anyone sick within 30 feet of you for 10 minutes, and it's even a 1st level Ritual. Way more efficient than an individual test, although it's not a Wizard spell.

D&D 5E (2014) Are Wizards really all that?

Well, adventuring would give a lot more money, way more quickly, and also fighting experience that could level them up and give stronger spells, if we extrapolate the PC mechanics for the NPCs as well.
